eleven24 Posted December 12, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted December 12, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Was out shooting a few days ago when I slung the SL over my shoulder and heard it hit the tripod head that was hanging off my shoulder bag. Â At first I thought it was snow on the top of the SL but when I went to brush it off, well I cut my finger. Â Â I've removed the shattered glass and covered the LCD with a small piece of plastic and some tape. Â The camera is still fully functional, and I'm ok not seeing the display, but I do want to get it repaired when I have some time to not be with the camera. Â The only thing I know about Leica service (which I guess is a good thing that I haven't needed it) is that they get sent to Germany. Â Â For those that have dealt with Leica repairs, is this something that might have a quick turnaround or would I be waiting awhile for the round trip from Germany? Â Honestly, the MacGyver in me says I can just go get a piece of glass, cut it, and affix it in the opening. Â Not to save the repair cost, but rather the down time. eleven24 Posted February 9, 2018 Author Share #8 Â Posted February 9, 2018 For those interested, just spoke with Leica regarding status. Â Was told that it should be done by the end of this month (February) as SL repairs typically take 3-4 weeks. Â They received the camera mid January. Â So realistically... 6-7 weeks.
eleven24 Posted February 28, 2018 Author Share #9  Posted February 28, 2018 Repairs completed, I received the camera a week ago.  I was "charged" 3 hours labor for:  damaged display sensor out of tolerance impact damage dirty sensor - cleaned clean, lubrication and adjustment replace leather covering  Total cost: $0.00    Not a bad outcome, aside from not having camera for a month or so!

This is in line with my experience(s); repairs take some time but things are being fixed, for free (or at modest cost) more often than not.

FlashGordonPhotography Posted February 28, 2018 Share #13 Â Posted February 28, 2018 You did well. I got a $500 bill for a sensor alignment on a camera I'm certain had not had an impact. Â I'm glad they looked after you but this inconsistency shits me. Leica really need to get a straightforward plan in place, on a worldwide level so we don't have a crap shoot about what gets charged and what doesn't. vladik Posted February 28, 2018 Share #14  Posted February 28, 2018 After reading of your misfortune eleven24 as an exercise (I guess I have nothing better to do) I have cut a piece on 2mm Perspex and stuck it over the top display of my SL. Does not look very elegant, but I am leaving it on for the time being. Welcome, dear visitor!
