The moon and Venus were very close tonight. Q2 and Swarovski ATS 80 Spotting Scope. 20X power on the scope. Two images combined together as best I can to show how the conjunction of the moon and Venus looked tonight. 20X on the spotting scope was too magnified to include Venus in the same image. On tripod, 1/10 sec, f/3.2, ISO 200.

Hello guys,
looking though this thread I see where several are having difficulty obtaining an adapter for the Q2 for digiscoping.

I don’t know about adaptability, but Zeiss makes an adapter that’s 49mm  male thread for screwing into the Q2 filter threads.

It then lines up on my Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 spotting scope perfectly (that’s what it’s designed for). They also make one the fits the Harpia spotter that  can be screwed into the Q2 filter threads.

They run about $70.00.

I don’t know if any would hep with your current situations, but if so, it’s a really easy setup to the Q2 and my Gavia spotting scope.

thanks.

Hello!

I would like to do digiscoping with my Q2 and the APO 82 I want to buy.

But I also need the adapter and cannot find any on the market.

Thanks for any advice about where I can find and buy  it?

OL

OL,

I wish I could help, but I know of no source for the adapter. If you’re in the US, I would call Leica New York Soho, Camera West and Leica Miami. They are two excellent Leica dealers. They may have one or one come in someday used.

Good Luck,

Dan (Leica Guy)

Thank you, TC.  I trust you mean this adapter, here.  This site seems to have them but clearly prior knowledge is needed to order the right adapter; assuming, of course, that it will fit your equipment.   Needless to say that I have no relationship with this site. Regards.

And will the digiscoping adapter fit a Q3 43?
It uses the 49mm filter thread or the outside thread for the hood?

I can confirm it does fit. I have a 43 and the adapter uses the hood thread. It screws on but does not get tight at the end like the hood does. But you have to turn it a good many times before it's fully on so it definitely isn't coming off.

I have a Q3 43 and the new APO Televid 65. I am definitely going to need to practise to get sharp photos. I threw it on this afternoon and tried taking photos of a static hawk in a tree and they were awful.

I was on a tripod and using the app to take photos to prevent shake. I had my settings at around F7.1 and a shutter of about 1/500, I figured I'd get rid of the noise in post. I found it very difficult to focus.

I am going to have to experiment with different settings when I have more time. I will try using focus peaking and also using the macro mode.

For a Q3 beginner trying to photograph the Milky Way please suggest best choices for these menu items (using F1.7 and manual focus on infinity):

Focusing

Exposure Metering

Exposure Compensation

White Balance

Scene Mode

Optical Image Stabilization

Shutter Type

Long exposure noise reduction

Thank you.
