Bison Posted December 13, 2017 Share #21  Posted December 13, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) thank you guys  anyone else faced this issue before ? I had a Tri-Elmar years ago (second version of the 28-35-50) that shipped to me with a really loose aperture ring. I sent it to Leica and they tightened it right up. Never had a problem after that.
Advertisement Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Hi Bison, Take a look here Loose Aperture ring on 50mm APO Normal or Refund ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jared Posted December 14, 2017 Share #22 Â Posted December 14, 2017 My 35mm Summilux FLE has the rattling aperture blades that are very common on that lens, but none of my other Leica lenses rattle. Â OK, the 'Q' does when it's turned off (OIS element is free to move), but that one doesn't count. Â My 50 APO is reasonably tight; though there is certainly a bit of play, it's not enough to be annoying to cause a rattle. Â You have every right for a brand new lens to have solid assembly, so if you want to return it feel free, but it is unlikely to ever cause a problem other than your general annoyance. Â As long as the focus is well damped and without backlash you should be good to go.
david strachan Posted December 14, 2017 Share #23 Â Posted December 14, 2017 Whenever i go looking for pre-loved Leica lenses they usually have an issue with the aperture ring, or the focus barrel. Â To sloppy or too tight. Â So i loose interest, and buy some chocolate instead. Â ...
pnoble Posted January 5, 2018 Share #24 Â Posted January 5, 2018 My 50mm APO aperture ring has very little resistance resulting in all too many photos taken at an unintended, inappropriate aperture. I find that I often accidentally shift the aperture from a typical f2-f5.6 range to f16 just grabbing the camera on its shoulder strap, let alone from a bag, which I typically only discover post-shot. I can see no upside to an aperture ring with so little resistance that you barely feel the detents. Surprising to me in a lens costing $8,000. But one helluva lens optically! earleygallery Posted January 5, 2018 Share #26  Posted January 5, 2018 I finally met my dealer.  they said this is very normal for APO.  They ensure I will have so much fun with it w/o any issue.  however, if the rainy day comes, AD will address this easily.  I dont know what I have to do. Probably just play with it with ease. but you know 7xxx USD lens with poor QC  Sounds like the type of car dealer who faced with an unhappy customer with a faulty car says "oh they all do that" !  Did they show you another lens to compare with? Did they offer to replace it?  Check your consumer rights and then decide how you want to proceed, or put up with a loose aperture ring until it fails completely!
