Jon Pop Posted November 27, 2017 Share #21 Posted November 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looks legit to me; I'm not sure they ever faked a iiiG, usually more some earlier models (which usually have a lot of give away clues), or the fakes are actual Leicas claiming to be WW2 or (in later years) 'original black paint' M3 and so forth. Enjoy your iiiG...it's a wonderful camera! I absolutely love mine.
Advertisement Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Hi Jon Pop, Take a look here Fake IIIg?! Serial number doesn't match cameraQuest or LeicaWiki . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted November 28, 2017 Share #22 Posted November 28, 2017 Mystery solved - perhaps: I was sceptical whether Leitz offered an upgrade from the Ig to IIIg. But they did. The brochure for the IIIg and Ig published in August 1958 (List 11-30 Engl.) says on p. 6: "Conversion of the LEICA Ig into model IIIg is possible. The charge equals the difference in price between the two models." You find the brochure here https://www.pacificrimcamera.com/rl/rlLeitzmisc.htm which by the way is an excellent source for good information for many different cameras, not only Leicas

I didn't have the Pacific Camera Link... but didn't make an extensive review of the various documents that are on one of my preferred sites (Summilux.net - excellent source) , and your post made me do it : found easily the same message : Welcome, dear visitor! luigi bertolotti Posted November 30, 2017 Share #24 Posted November 30, 2017 So, Jodad, you can really be not simply comfortable, but happy too, to have bought a IIIG that not only is original, but has something "special", being it an "upgraded" IG (and I think there aren't so many) or an "out of range" item : enjoy and treat with care. sandro Posted December 6, 2017 Share #30 Posted December 6, 2017 Interesting question and replies! The conversions of Leica camera's are fascinating, and UliWer added another kind of interesting source. Every now and then we discuss conversions and always new questions seem to arise.
