Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted January 1, 2018 Share #261 Posted January 1, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Very interesting to read about the M246 vs the X1D. I have been shooting the S for some years now but lately I am turned off a bit by the size / weight specially of the lenses. Also smaller cameras have become better-if I see what I can get from the SL it is not that bad either, even though I allways have loved the files from the S and still believe MF has some special "mojo". I am not sure though how much comes from the lens and how much from the bigger sensor. Mayn write the x1d lenses are very good but the S lenses are supposed to be better. Specially in regards of creamy bokeh. If we leave pure resolution out of the game, is it still worth to carry MF format gear? In theory I would guess no, but then specially in regards of color I sometimes believe maybe yes. Neil-did you step into the x1 system? Any thoughts compared to the S? Tom I love my S007 and the lenses.........., my way of shooting the S now gets some funny remarks from the toffs on here but those guys are always hung up about size and weight........everyone to there own. My set up is ........ using the S with 2 lenses. My go to lens is the S120 so I initially put that on the S that also has the RRS L bracket. I then hang all of that off the Black Rabbit strap attaching that to the RRS L Plate. I also have a quick connect whip check that has one end on one of the S strap lugs and the other end on the actual strap of the Black Rabbit........if for any reason the Black Rabbit securing lug lets go then the whip check will stop the S hitting the deck. I carry my S70mm in my photographers vest pocket with spare battery and a few filters.......thats my set up for street and walk about photography. If I am going to need a tripod I strap that puppy to my back with a super lightweight backpack I mean less than a pound in weight, just a shoulder strap mechinisium with a nylon/mesh body......I initially bought that for riding my mountain bike so that I could pack a small camera and tool kit. Mark is correct I am getting a new H6D100c with 3 lenses. HC 50mm II, HC 100 f2.2 both new and a second hand HC150n 3.2 lens that I found in eBay Pictures to follow Happy New Year guys Neil

Neil I have been working on some of them but have not posted them to my Zenfolio page yet. I like the colors and the X1D is really easy to use. I used focus peaking on manual most of the time. I might for the zoom once it is available. When are you getting the beast....!

Bill W Posted January 2, 2018 Share #268 Posted January 2, 2018 The raw files right out of the camera are large, 105 MB. I am glad I bought two 128 GIG cards when I ordered the camera. Hasselblad has their own software to process the files. You can of course convert them to DNG.

Bill W Posted January 2, 2018 Share #270 Posted January 2, 2018 Phocus has some lens correction in it. Not sure how much difference it makes. I will always keep my S as well as my SL. I just love new toys to explore. Keeps my brain active. The wife thinks I need to do that. Go figure....

Bill, Zoom is available ... has been for months ... 50% or 100%. When you are looking through the EVF or on the LCD hit the * button to the right of the display. When you are in MF you can set the AF button to AF but also set for zoom as you focus manually. Please refer to P. 63 in the user guide. stevelap Posted January 14, 2018 Share #279 Posted January 14, 2018 (edited) A question for owners, what do you think of the quality and user experience of the EVF? I ask because I had a brief hands-on try of the X1D yesterday and found the EVF of the demonstrator to be a bit 'tv like' and not as realistic as, for instance, those of SL, A9 or the latest M4/3rds (I have no experience of the Q or CL). I had no time to adjust the camera's settings, and the try-out was indoors under the bright lights of a seminar room, so that might have been the issue of course. I ask not to 'diss' the camera by the way, in fact I would love to have one, but it's (for me) a very expensive piece of kit and I'd like to be reassured if possible. Bill W Posted January 14, 2018 Share #280 Posted January 14, 2018 Its true that the EVF is not as good as the one on my SL. I find it is adequate for what I am trying to do which is take photos. I did not buy it to see the world through the EVF, I bought my X1D for its IQ which is fabulous from my standpoint. I found it to be a very easy camera to get to know. It is great as a camera to just walk around with. I will buy the zoom lens when it is available. And no I will not get rid of any of my Leica kit.
