Thanks to all responses. Appreciated.

Attached was my lens hood and lens cap. the top of cap (where to pinch using finger) is very thin, I have to carefully put it on/off with the hood on.

I have thought of a protection filter or similar stuff, heard it always brings down picture quality somehow.

maybe keep hood off in most time is a good idea. I can put it one when I have to use it.

I don't like much filters either but i have no problem with my ZM hood caps. I have not large fingers though and i use caps only for transportation. Best way to lose them is to use them out of the bag. Now the only alternative i know of is indeed a protective filter. Good filters won't cause significant flare or ghost image issues if you don't forget to remove them for strong backlight or night photography.

You could try and find a lens cap that fits the end of the hood.

It might take a trip to your local camera store to find one that fits perfectly.

I have a canon 58mm cap on the cheap eBay hood for my Voigtlander 35 Nokton, and a 52mm Canon hood on a similar hood for my 50 Summarit.

Hi,

I also have the planar with the Zeiss hood. Since day one the lens cap sits in the drawer. If I have a hood I never use caps and in 25 years never had a problem or a damaged lens.

I you feel better with a cap, the shown canon solution might be a convinent soloution.

Daniel
