Advertisement Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Dare I take an M8 test drive?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted June 28, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2007 Go oooon, Andy, you owe it to yourself! You KNOW you want to. Just take it for a teeny weeny test drive ... you don't have to buy. You'll kick yourself if you pass up this opportunity. You've got nothing to worry about - there's no WAY you'd get hooked during a harmless test drive ... Pete. kidigital Posted June 28, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 28, 2007 Better yet, bring along an eensy beensy SD card and take an image or two home with you ... there's no harm in taking a look at the files up-close ... in the end, all of these digital images look the same anyway ... larry Posted June 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2007 Andy, Don't even bother with the test drive, just buy one! You already know you'll love it. Larry

marknorton Posted June 28, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2007 I think you should, though Leica have a nerve charging for it. Maybe, as an R-user, the charge is waived?
Shootist Posted June 28, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't Don't Don't do it. If you do the next thing you know is you'll have 2 of them and a pile of new lenses and accessories.
mgcd Posted June 28, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2007 Well Andy, last week my stockist lent me a new M8 and a couple of M lenses for about a week. It felt rather light compared to the other Ms I've owned. I tend to like heavier cameras, but that's neither here nor there. Anyhow, I carried this new tool with me everywhere and I was being stopped by complete strangers asking about the camera. It operated flawlessly, a point worth mentioning after all the hoopla... Pretty straight forward in terms of operations, as you already know. The files were clean, processed with C1 Pro. Although clearly not on par with the file quality of the DMR, it was a joy to use although having the viewfinder obstructed by the sunshade was rather annoying. Will I get one? I'll get a second DMR first. Cheers,
andybarton Posted June 28, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted June 28, 2007 Conrad. "Although clearly not on par with the file quality of the DMR," Thank you. You have just saved me about five grand. I will buy you a slap up dinner, next time you're in Liverpool (2008 is a good year, btw...)
jaapv Posted June 28, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 28, 2007 Ha-ha. Useless rationalizing, Andy. You'll take the fall sooner or later:p

You'll take the fall sooner or later:p I will buy ANYBODY (within reason) a slap-up, It's still cheaper than an M8 and a brace of lenses...
cocker Posted June 28, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 28, 2007 Andy, Only thing it's not worth its taking a test drive on is a good marriage - hope you have got a good one!!! Otherwise go for her!! rwfreund Posted June 28, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 28, 2007 Oh, go on do it! One little test drive won't hurt. All of your friends are doing it. Why do you want to be the last one to have tried it? -bob
nryn Posted June 29, 2007 Share #15 Posted June 29, 2007 After about a year of research and several gallons of drool, a good friend of mine took a Porsche for a test drive. And since a few weeks after that test drive, he has driven a Targa. So sure, take one for a test drive.
tashley Posted June 29, 2007 Share #16 Posted June 29, 2007 Don't Don't Don't do it. If you do the next thing you know is you'll have 2 of them and a pile of new lenses and accessories. Too true. When you can spend around $4,000 on a lens which requires a filter you can't buy and then can't fit and which requires a separate finder that makes Frankenstein look like Johny Depp, and still feel privileged to have got hold of one... then you know you have it bad... sean_reid Posted June 29, 2007 Share #17 Posted June 29, 2007 Although clearly not on par with the file quality of the DMR, Hmm, that hasn't been my experience. <G> Andy, Why not? It could be fun. Cheers,
