I photograph . .  PUZZLES

Found this lot in The Marais, Paris. Saw a hat, a wig, dresses, scarfs, a black/white slip in this lot. A travestite treasure trove?

What we photograph in the street -

Your camera submerges into the currents of moments and bobs to the surface periodically for gasps of air. The alchemy of these elements, showtime! A scenario that is fraught with speculation, pregnant with possibilities. Emotional tone is informed by the dark, somber lighting and rough textures. The mood catches one off balance, wary. It is not simply observation, but surveillance. Four subjects, possibly, in this scenario: one off camera on the cell phone in conversation with a woman in the car, unless she is listening to a message or getting a busy tone, and then there is Adidas man, the only fully recognizable face, flanked by someone, mostly out of frame, betrayed only by the hand holding a cigarette. They are waiting, smoking a cigarette, looking off camera, talking on the cell phone inside a car, all disconnected, waiting for what? For Godot?

The eye cannot help picking up the haphazard patch on the wall next to Adidas man, bandaged up sloppily with black duct tape. Challenge: how to piece together the patchwork of this visual scaffolding.

Another haunting vignette from the lambda lexicon.
