Guest Posted April 24, 2018 Share #83 Posted April 24, 2018 Rather than MP, it is the sensor size that makes the difference in angle of view with a given lens. So your sensor is roughly 40mm x 54mm, I never found a 50mm that wide on my film Hasselblads (57mm square)..... john Subjective perception John. Like I said, I like to shoot landscapes with a long lens and stitch.........not because its better or anything like that just because thats what I like to do Neil

Guest Posted April 24, 2018 Share #86 Posted April 24, 2018 That will only work with distant landscape, not with shots that have a foreground component... john Correct I didn't think about that..........My 50mm is really quite wide John like a 30mm nearly Neil
Jeff S Posted April 24, 2018 Share #87 Posted April 24, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Subjective perception John. Nothing subjective at all. If your MP doubled on your camera, your FOV wouldn’t change a bit. But if you put your 50 on a (hypothetical) 100 MP X2D, it would appear less wide due to the smaller sensor (assuming the X2D sensor is the same size as the X1D). Jeff Not correct Jeff Were talking sensor size here mate not megabytes. My 50mm II on my 100c 44x57 ish sensor will be wider than a 37x44 sensor like on my S...........like 0.6 verses 0.8 Neil Edited April 24, 2018 by Guest

MP doubling would NOT change your FOV (field of view) using your 50. But putting your 50 on your S.... or on the smaller sensor X1D.... WOULD give you a narrower FOV. This is what John tried to explain to you after you referred to your 100MP camera, which only gives your 50 a wider FOV because of its sensor size, not because of its MP. Jeff I'm fully aware of the relationship between sensor size and FOV as this was explained to me last week. I'm also fully aware that megapixel don't effect it. I used to have a Nikon 14/24mm and even though that is a very special lens for Nikon it really didn't do anything for me personally as it was just to wide and difficult to use. Thats why I have decided to use my HC50mm II as the widest lens on my H6D100c and my S30mm on my S007. I actually don't like the S30mm on my S so will try my HC50 II on my S007 via an adapter and see how that is Neil

It’s often not clear what you understand and what you don’t because the only thing less clear is your writing style. John and I raised the point because your earlier post made it seem that you attributed the FOV issue to your “100 MP “ camera, not to your “largest sensor” camera.
