I sent my M6 Classic to Leica for CLA. The camera worked flawlessly a couple of weeks ago, as it had done for the last twenty years. Its only other CLA was ten years ago.

The letter from Leica stated "traces of use" as general condition of the camera. It estimated that a little more than four and a half hours of work were required, totalling to 700 euros and, along with a minor replacement, the letter suggested I should pay almost 740 euros for the CLA service.

I declined the offer. Pity, for I'd like to have my M6 receiving a CLA after ten years of use. Now, it will have to await for the next lottery.

What is wrong with a CLA by a reputed third-party technician?

Solid advice. There are 12-20 highly regarded people in Europe, UK, USA and Canada that can do just as good a job as Leica - and for way less money, and in many cases faster.

Could you share some contact or tell where to search? I am looking for someone in Central/Eastern Europe. Thanks a lot!

My direct experience is in the northeast of North America, where I have used Kindermann in Toronto (Gerry Smith, who may have retired), Sherry Krauter (quite a long time ago), and more recently Yousin Ye at YYeCamera (Canton Mass.) All have been excellent.

I have no experience in eastern or central Europe. In your situation I would research repairers in the UK or perhaps France (mainly because I speak English and French only).

Sorry to be unhelpful.
