Upcoming firmware updates?

I've noticed that Leica usually issues a couple or more firmware updates for one of their new cameras in the first year or so as they did with the Q for instance and the SL…….So I was wondering what you'd all like to see happen in regards to the next firmware updates. Personally I can't think of anything other than a quicker start-up if that were possible.

I've expressed a wish for slow or fast Continuous shooting. I prefer continuous, but the M10 shoots too fast, so it's hard to get just one when I want that. So if there was a "fast" speed for when you actually really need 5 fps, and then a slow for just 2.5-3.0 fps, that would be perfect. This way I could leave the camera on Continuous and either take one or a small series of photos, whenever I wanted to (as one can with the Q, M240 and M9)

A quicker start-up would have been nice, especially from sleep mode. I have missed several shots when I wasn't aware that the camera had gone to sleep and it didn't respond quickly enough.

Curious that this is an issue with normal Visual RF use...

a. Are  you using latest firmware?

b. What card?

c. Have you formatted using SD formatter.

With two M10 bodies I have no start up issues - I don't notice a difference between using the M10 and my Canon 5D3.

If you're using the EVF all the time, the start up is a fraction slower - but it's nothing special.

Hope you can sort it out.

I use firmware 1.7.4.0. I see there is a newer now. Do you think it would help to update?

I use a Lexar 32GB, 150 MB/s memory card.

I have formatted the card some times.

I only use RF.

When I press the shutter halfway down in sleep mode, it takes about 1,5 seconds before the frame lines appear and the camera is ready. Is this normal? For my photography this is often a bit too long.

I do so miss the C switch.  Given the difficulty of switching mode, continuous mode is essentially unusable, AFAIC.  I don't know how others use it, but I don't generally anticipate the need for multiple frames, I simply all of a sudden find myself in situation where I need it and by the time its enabled via menu, the moment has largely passed.  I could live with your suggestion, but as others have mentioned the front button, it be nice if that were assignable, for among other things  C/S mode toggling.

In other areas, I miss the e-level, if the hardwares there I'd like it back.  I miss the aperture estimate as well.   I'd like to see unknown lens in the m adapter menu for auto lens mode. That way I can be in auto an simply set the m lens on or off. As it is I'm set to R-Adapter-M, but if I want to set a profile, its a multi-step operation. I'd like to see a setting that shuts off the EVF if my eye isnt up to the finder.  Might not save a lot of energy, but its something and the M battery needs all the help it can get when shooting in EVF mode.

With reference to another current thread, I would really like new firmware to make the lens detection less ¨critical¨ when detecting lenses (Leica must take care of potential dirty screws on some 1980 lenses in a different manner...).

And I also would like a continuous option of like 2-2,5 pics/sec.

I would love the movement of the focus magnification point to 'wrap' from left to right or top to bottom. I know this seems like an odd request but when working with tilt-shift lenses and adjusting tilt you often have to go back and forth edge-to-edge and that's a very long process currently.

As I wrote in another topic, I have a few suggestions for a possible new firmware:

1) when reviewing a picture, let the user push the front botton to have a quick 100% magnification of the picture. Using the rear wheel is cumbersome and takes time;

2) when using the EVF/Live view mode and moving the focus point, allow the front botton or the center botton in the middle of the arrows (maybe with a doble click) to put back the focus point at the center of the screen.

3) include a spirit level to EVF/Live view mode. This is very important for any landscape picture.

Hello Chris, I've always suspected that the card/s I am using could be the cause of the slow start-up, ( slower than my M240 for sure, and the "Info' screen takes a really long time to appear from camera start-up ), so may I ask what cards you find work well for you with the M10? 32 or 64 gb, no larger.

Thanks!

Peter

I agree with the assessment that the Timer / C / S / Off switch was nicer than the current solution. It's a drastic oversimplification and I miss the old way of things.

I'd love for an update to fix the very slow refresh rate of the EVF when zoomed in. It's like a damn slideshow. Nearly unusable.

Then I hope a firmware can do something with it. My old Canon 5D II is fit for fight almost immediately.

Agreed, the startup time has caused me to miss shots on a few occasions. It's frustrating, so I just tap the shutter halfway to keep it awake. This is an area for improvement.

Given the occurrences of ISO dial failure suddenly making the camera essentially unusable and given the relative workability of using the menu to set ISO (if the dial is left on 'M'), many M10 users are not using the dial.   If there were an _option_ in the menus to have the menu setting override the dial, folks could use the dial with more confidence.
