wda Posted August 19, 2017 Share #21 Â Posted August 19, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 50mm rigid Summicron just seems so right with an M3. When sold new, that was the popular pairing. They are well balanced and use the wonderful viewfinder to maximum advantage. I speak from experience. Only if beyond your budget would I consider alternatives.
Advertisement Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Hi wda, Take a look here On a 50mm budget: Cron-Rigid // Cron-DR // Lux-Type 2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted August 19, 2017 Share #22 Â Posted August 19, 2017 As side note, there are not much differences in 50mm DR/Rigid. Summicron DR no infinity lock but narrower focus ring than Rigid. Â My best buy is Summarit-M 2.5/50 the best budget but great IQ and handling.
TRIago Posted August 19, 2017 Share #23 Â Posted August 19, 2017 The best? What's that exactly? The smallest? The lightest? The sharpest? With the most contrast? With the least contrast? The least expensive? Your favourite? The 'glowiest'? The shortest focus pull? etc ... Â Pete. No, just the best. Look it up.
farnz Posted August 19, 2017 Share #24  Posted August 19, 2017 No, just the best. Look it up.  I already have the 50 Rigid so I don't need to look it up thanks I can make my own mind up.  It's a wonderful lens and is certainly one of my favourites but there are other lenses that are better in some respects so it can't be called "the best".  The point I was trying to making is that there is no "best" until the terms of reference are defined.  Pete.

A miller Posted August 20, 2017 Share #26  Posted August 20, 2017 If you are in the market of a Leica then you are not that poor and have a good sense of quality.  Do yourself a favor and buy a DR cron with the googles.  It isa masterpiece of a lens and renders very classic, and also have amazing bokeh. I have mine with me right now in Tel Aviv with my M3 and have been loving using the macros feature here and there... Welcome, dear visitor! jarit Posted August 21, 2017 Share #28 Â Posted August 21, 2017 If you are looking a budget alternative, how about Canon 50/1.4 with LTM a.ka "japan summicron" ? One review: https://jonasraskphotography.com/2015/10/16/the-canon-50mm-f1-4-ltm-review/ Â I've been playing with Canon and M240 during summer and trying to learn FOV of 50mm lens, which is not my favourite focal length. So far this Canon has been pretty interesting experience. Vintage look is well present, sharpeness is good and I like the smooth bokeh that lens delivers. jdlaing Posted August 21, 2017 Share #29 Â Posted August 21, 2017 That would be "Japanese Summilux".
howlback Posted August 21, 2017 Author Share #30 Â Posted August 21, 2017 My lens search has been halted due to a broken shutter stop in the M3 I just purchased. Luckily, I have the option to return it.
