Lens Mount Damage

Have just purchased a Summarit 75mm 2.5 used.  It was described as Mint, and I have to say the body and glass are indeed in excellent condition.  Sure I will be happy with the lens but, when examining more closely I can see a mark/scratch/pitting on the lens mount.  You can actually feel it when you rub your fingernail over it.   Having always noticed camera dealers usually mention if there is any wear or marks on the lens mount, I wonder if I should be concerned about it.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for replies.

Let's see a pic of the flat part of the mount......the rear of the lens.

No sign of anything other than marks as shown in first pic - which I can only describe as a graze - you can feel a roughness to the surface of the metal.  I guess because I purchased it (therefore valued it) as Mint, I am worried how it would affect value on re-sale.  Seller has apologised, he honestly had not noticed it, which I can easily believe.  I did actually pay a little more for this private purchase than I could have bought the lens from a dealer with a warranty for - hence my concern.  Think I will see how it performs before I worry any more about it.  Thanks for any input.

That's where I'd look for damage. It looks pretty clean on your copy. Almost like it was never used. You should be fine.

This will affect the value on re-sale i'm afraid. I would ask for a rebate or return the lens.

On a Summarit?

A. That depends on what he paid for it.

B. It's an inconsequential mar.

C. Summaries have to be the poorest investment lens on the planet.

Yes on a Summarit or any other lens, why not? The OP purchased the lens as mint and "i did actually pay a little more for this private purchase than I could have bought the lens from a dealer with a warranty for" he wrote above. I would not pay as mint a lens like that as far as i'm concerned but YMMV of course B).

Looks very superficial. But, did you buy to use it or to keep as an investment. Summarits are not lenses to invest it, I'm afraid, unless you buy it cheap.

Thank you.

No, I did not buy the lens as an investment, of course not, though I do believe that if you purchase carefully when buying used you do limit your loss if it comes to re-sale or trade in later.  Having the 50mm 1.4 Lux, which is basically on my M240 all the time,  I wished to see if the 75mm focal length would suit me, whether I will need faster/longer/better only time will tell.   I prefer to buy rather than rent, even if that were possible, and do not like the practise of buying and returning for no other reason than it doesn't suit.

Thanks folks.  Just as an update on the outcome, the seller and I came to an agreement with regard to a reduction in price, having satisfied myself that I would be happy with the lens in every other way.    Both happy now I believe, thanks again.
