Having both a 35 and 28mm? Lens dilemma

I already have a 21 CV, 35 Cron ASPH, 50 Cron, 85 Zeiss, 135 Elmar. However I use the 35mm almost all the time. I like the versatility of a 35mm and I hate changing lenses while on the field. 

 

Lately, I enjoyed shooting landscape, and I'm thinking of getting a wider lens than 35mm. 

 

Main question: Is it practical to have a 28mm despite already having a 35mm? 

 

Subquestion: Given my lens line up, I'm considering the 28mm Elmarit ASPH 2.8 or should I get the CV 15mm heliar III?

Why not swap the 21 for a 24/25 and the 15?

 

But, 28 and 35 are different enough, as long as you when tontake each one out.

 

The Voigtlander 15mm v III is a lot of fun to use and gives one a completely different perspective.  I also have the 21 1.8 and it and the 15mm are very different from each other as well. Given the prices of the Voigtlander lenses, they are worth trying without much downside financial risk. Notwithstanding, I love both of them.

For a while, Leica offered MATE or Tri-Elmar-M 28-35-50 when changing lens is not practical.

Not great succes, but in use it's wonderful if finder blockage is not problem.

 

I used one MATE for a long while and now replace it with Elmarit-M 28mm asph. or Summaron-M 28mm and a light Summarit-M 2.5/50.

Even if I like the 35 FoV, 28 or 50 may be fine for 95% and no more finder blockage to worry about :p .

Two small and lightest lenses to be happy: 28mm and 50mm.

 

The MATE is given to my wife ;) some months ago.

Assuming you have a bit more to spend, why not get a Leica q? I find switching bodies more easy than lens. I carry 35 crown and 50 lux on its own dedicated body. Once I get the WATE it will change. Btw 28 is really much much wide than 35. Go for it !

I know the symptoms. That's how it always starts. Resistance is futile. You'll end up with both a 28 and a 15. And more fungi to worry about (sorry, couldn't resist :p). Rinse and repeat. It's fun, though...

 

Seriously, you have a great lens line-up for pretty much anything you can take a photograph of.

Yes, 28mm is different from 35mm, but I have never taken out either focal length and wished I had the other one with me.

The Elmarit is an excellent, small, high contrast lens if that's what you want.

After the initial excitement, the 15 will inevitably see less use, particularly if you don't like swapping lenses. Get the latest v3 if you want that.

I used 28mm because of Winogrand work I admire, but it is very different from 35mm, which is my universal focal length. I had 28 2.8 III and distortions on corners were much more uglier than with 35mm. 

15mm ... you really need to know how to do it right and what for it is, IMO.

 

Landscape could be done with 50, 35 lens. Where I'm, 50mm is my landscape lens often.

The thing is not lethal.

 

Each time that I have new gear, my photo-life take a new life.

 

Good things with those lenses, I can play with some short or long time ... then after that go to another lenses.

Keeping right ones is more difficult, I owned/used some lenses for more than one time ;) .

Sure. I have set aside time for testing a couple of lenses over the w-e (you're not the only one with GAS around here...) so I can certainly do a couple more.

I can do Elmarit 28 ASPH vs Summicron 35 ASPH with the same subject. My lenses are not the latest version, though. But that should be irrelevant from a practical perspective.

lol !! What if there is a rehab to control such addictions ?? (Someone reviews your bank statements each month, card automatically gets declined at leica, eBay etc)

As promised, here's a few. I did not have a tripod available where I was, so they are all handheld - hence slight differences in framing. Also, the clouds were moving pretty fast, so there are some differences in lighting. Tried to include far and distant elements. Rough focus on the pole in the middle of the frame. All with the M10 set to ISO 100 and all at f/2.8. Straight OOC converted in LR at default settings.

Indeed, there is a respectable difference between the two lens in terms of field of view. Moreover, it can be seen that the perspective - the foreground to background distance -  changes significantly.

Absolutely wonderful! No regrets. No redundancy. No way I would do without either.

 

I would get rid of the 21 CV and the 135 if you are wanting to rationalise your gear.

I have got M10 with M Apo 50 & M Lux 75. Pls. advise if I can get only one of two M 28 or M 35 (Lux or Cron) for my combo?
