Budfox Posted June 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) The white lettering on the back of my MMI (menu/ISO/Delete etc) is now flaking off. Has anyone had this problem and can it be fixed? (or do I have to live with a transformation to an SL style of labelling?).

Soden Posted June 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2017 The white lettering on the back of my MMI (menu/ISO/Delete etc) is now flaking off. Has anyone had this problem and can it be fixed? (or do I have to live with a transformation to an SL style of labelling?). Problem? I take a toothpick and rub off the letters... but to each their own. Do you have a game shop near where you live? Get some dice paint and fill in the letters. The excess can just rub off.
jaapv Posted June 19, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2017 I'm not convinced that the button lettering is engraved, so it probably cannot be restored this way. It looks more like screen printing. Either have Leica sort it,(which will likely be quite expensive), make little labels or live with it.
a.noctilux Posted June 19, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2017 On my Monochrom Original, lettering are lightely engraved. Soden's suggestion may work. If not, label on self-adhesive of your choice and put them in same place. Even choice of colors may be used : white ISO, green PLAY, red SET , orange INFO, not use DELETE . Budfox Posted June 19, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted June 19, 2017 Thanks for the responses. Yes they are very lightly engraved. I have not heard of dice paint before. Is that somehow designed to fill engraved holes??
colint544 Posted June 19, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2017 The lettering is definitely engraved. The paint on my M Monochrom wore off years ago, and I don't especially miss it. There are so few buttons, that it's easy to remember what each one does. Welcome, dear visitor! Budfox Posted June 19, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted June 19, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many thanks. Looks like I should just leave it to wear away gracefully.
pico Posted June 19, 2017 Share #8 Posted June 19, 2017 If you change your mind, the product to get is Markal # 51120 lacquer stik. It is less than $3 usd. The method is to first clean the camera area with a little alcohol, then peel some of the paper off one end of the stick, rub the stuck on plain paper until it is soft, then apply back and forth over the lettering impression. Finally shortly after that, wipe over the areas with a clean cotton or micro fiber cloth to remove all that didn't stick into the lettering. In 12 hours it will cure and last a long, long time. I've been using the stuff forever. Best of luck.
