pico Posted May 27, 2017 Share #441 Posted May 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) It was just the weirdest feeling putting those two little cameras in a box and sending them away, I haven't felt like this since my kids grew up and left home! Kinda reminds me of the Fifties as a seven-year old when receiving a little package, "It is from Battle Creek Michigan!" Okay, nobody remembers. Ya gotta be there.

I used to order The Beano, Whizzer and Chips, Buster, Beezer, Topper, The Dandy etc, which came by sea to New Zealand. Best of the best, though, were Dudley D Watkins' The Broons and Oor Wullie. Sea freight delivery times seemed to depend on how early the Tradewinds had kicked in, but time was a very different commodity in those days, and anticipation was the drug of choice.

I was fortunate to be a delivery boy for my local newsagents, I could read these the day they came out, if the were really good I would actually buy them. MarkP Posted May 27, 2017 Share #446 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) Please try to de-register it. Post the first several digits of the serial number. I'll check against the one I just bought. Others might do the same. sn 397xxxx. Happy to provide the full number to anyone concerned. This was in Sydney The dealer went into receivership but did not have a separate account for consignment monies which just went into their general accounts to prop up their failing business- improper. Furthermore it transpires that the dealer was factoring consignments - illegal. I never saw the camera again, nor received any money - illegal. I managed to retrieve a few lenses also on consignment sale with a great deal of difficulty - inconvenient. I have NO intention of deregistering the M9 at this stage as I don't know what became of it. It is my only link to the camera - perhaps illogical ;-) Edited May 27, 2017 by MarkP
-Lss- Posted May 27, 2017 Share #447 Posted May 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I emailed a copy of my purchase invoice and provided the TAN number from the literature in the box the camera came in. Thanks. Mine is a direct sale by the previous owner, and there is therefore no "official invoice". Leica does not accept what I have. I have the original box and paperwork, but this is not enough. imagereflex Posted May 27, 2017 Share #448 Posted May 27, 2017 Math problem? Twenty-four weeks would make it October if they have had it for a month. No math problem on my end; I realized the timing as soon as Leica said 24 weeks (I even asked for clarification on 24 weeks, since I could not believe the figure). I was hoping to have the camera back by June or July, but that was before I spoke with Leica. Leica said mine there was a slight chance mine might not take as long might as 24 weeks since it was ahead of the crowd, and that it might even be ready in late July or August, but I suspect that was said in an effort to lessen my obvious shock at the 24 week estimate. Perhaps the math problem is on Leica's end, or perhaps they believe it is better to give customers false hope...

These sensors are ordered in batches, and the manufacturer has to fit these small orders in between runs for other sensors. That can and will cause delays in the supply chain.

Go Figure Posted May 30, 2017 Share #453 Posted May 30, 2017 These sensors are ordered in batches, and the manufacturer has to fit these small orders in between runs for other sensors. That can and will cause delays in the supply chain. There are 3 reasons why I feel especially insulted by the whole thing . 1st the timing they chose for the announcement. 2nd the limitation of the repair window. 3rd not having enough M10 on supply. May through August are the busiest traveling months in the Northern hemisphere! ... sorry I will not buy another M240 when I just have sold it. So either you have your Leica with you or it's sitting in Solms ?

pop Posted May 30, 2017 Share #455 Posted May 30, 2017 ... very interesting ! does the consumer law also mention that the replacement has to be FOC?
Go Figure Posted May 30, 2017 Share #456 Posted May 30, 2017 does the consumer law also mention that the replacement has to be FOC? hmmm ... thank you for mentioning ! ... it surely becomes even more interesting once you start reading the 44 page document. Most interesting also that not only the manufacturer but especially the seller of the goods can get caught up in the ordeal. Anyway, If no satisfactory outcome can be reached, there seems to be no problem to take one's Leica to court.
leicapages Posted May 30, 2017 Share #457 Posted May 30, 2017 On a 29.000$ camera a 1000$ repair halfway through its economic life seems to be of little relevance to me. ??? The point being?
IkarusJohn Posted May 31, 2017 Share #458 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) does the consumer law also mention that the replacement has to be FOC? Of course - that's the point. Edited May 31, 2017 by IkarusJohn
pop Posted May 31, 2017 Share #459 Posted May 31, 2017 Of course - that's the point. Thank you for making that clear. The quote above did not do that.
likealot Posted May 31, 2017 Share #460 Posted May 31, 2017 ... and given that the number of reports has dropped dramatically to virtually zero, it is unlikely that the rest of the sensors will exhibit corrosion at all. If that is indeed the case then Leica's announcement in this matter makes absolutely no sense at all. All it does is contribute negatvely to Leica's reputation. Unless, Leica intends to not stock the CCD sensor anymore.
