Looking forward to the solar eclipse in the U.S. on Aug. 21st. I thought I'd try some time lapse photos of the sun with the Q. I bought a 52mm solar filter and adapted it to the 49mm filter threads on the Q. Focus is hard. I can't see any sunspots or detail in the sun. Just not enough magnification. These images were taken at 5 min intervals then combined in photoshop using the difference blending mode between layers. Significantly cropped. When I photograph it with my Canon 500 mm f/4 lens, I can see lots of sunspots and detail. I thought the Q might be fun to set up to photograph the entire eclipse cycle which is around 3 hours using time lapse. I'll then photograph details with the Canon lens and camera. Anyway, always looking for fun ways to use my Q. Anyone else pursuing the eclipse?

I don't quite understand why focusing should be hard. The distance from here to the sun is "infinity". Can you set a Q to focus at infinity?

Most lenses that I use are not in sharp focus at the infinity stop. It's hard in this case because the sun is so small in the viewfinder even when magnified under manual focus. it may also be an exposure problem causing the over exposure to look like it's out of focus. I'm still trying to learn how to do this with the Q. It's much easier when you have magnification such as with a 500mm telephoto on my Canon camera. Similarly focusing on stars can be a real challenge. At least it is for me.

One other add to the challenge. There's very little light from the sun to work with. The solar filter attenuates the light by 100,000X.

I visited a Blacksmith's Forge today. A perfect place for the Q to "forge" some images.

Very nice.  And good to see someone is still making things the old fashioned way.

The first image could do with a bit more contrast I thought.
