The newly launched Leica D-Lux 8 has caught my attention. I can't help but be tempted by its elegant, classy, and compact design, featuring a DC Vario-Summilux 10.9mm-34mm f/1.7-2.8 lens and a 4/3 sensor (I also use Olympus and Panasonic cameras, so no problem with (micro) 4/3 sensor). It even comes with a compact flash. This camera seems perfect for me, as I mainly use my camera to capture family moments.

I used a Leica X (Typ 113) from 2015 until I sold it and upgraded to a Leica Q in 2017. The Leica Q has been my primary camera for capturing family moments, while I reserve my Olympus and Panasonic cameras for special purposes.

Many friends have suggested that I upgrade to the Leica Q3, but I don't see a strong enough reason to upgrade, and the price is not friendly to my wallet at this time. What do you think? Is it reasonable for me to be interested in the D-Lux 8? Would it be wise to add the D-Lux 8 to my camera collection, or even sell my Leica Q for the D-Lux 8? Thank you in advance.

The following photo is of my daughter and niece, taken with a Leica Q (ISO 1250, f/3.2, 1/60s) and a Godox V860 II O flash (yes... very powerfull, but a very large flash to carry around).

Yoki -

I've had the Dlux 5 and the Dlux 109 and enjoyed them both.  I'm all but certain the Dlux 8 will include a function available when shooting jpeg that is in just about all other Panasonic-Leicas, which makes the camera even more versatile.  They have a function called "iZoom" which uses a very sophisticated algorithm that allows you to zoom in to double the focal length of the base lens, with little or no loss.  However, the Q is such a special camera (I've had one for 6 1/2years) that I wouldn't replace it with the Dlux 8.  instead, I'd keep both cameras.  In my case, I have a Vlux 5 and the Q, and they compliment one another very well.  My Q is my carry everywhere camera, and the Vlux 5 is what I carry when I expect to shoot wildlife, or distant details (It's lens with iZoom the the 35mm equivalent of 25 - 800).  Frequently, such as on vacation, I'll carry them both.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Dlux 5, Dlux 109, and the Q. It's reassuring to hear that the Dlux 8 will likely have the "iZoom" function, as it sounds like a valuable feature. I appreciate your advice on keeping both the Dlux 8 and the Q. Your setup with the Vlux 5 and the Q makes a lot of sense, especially for versatility and different shooting scenarios.

I'm convinced that having both cameras will give me the best of both worlds, and your insight has been incredibly helpful.

It's no wonder that not many people come to this beautiful and clean beach; the name probably deters them. Too bad.
