My uncle used to build scale models of steam engines that you could ride on. They’re quite complicated things!

Yes, really quite fascinating, the devil's in their detail too. Also move unexpectedly quickly 'n all:-) I have some close ups elsewhere and elsewhen, just a matter of finding 'un.

This is essentially what my uncle used to build. He also used to build movements for grandfather clocks - more mechanical skill in one finger than I have in my whole being!

Thanks.  What you are seeing are reflections on the mirror polished stainless steel surface of the bean shaped sculpture known more commonly as "The Bean".

It's fun to photograph from different angles up close for these fun-house images.  One can never get a shot without crowds of people in and around it.

Thanks. Appreciate the reply.

WOW. I'd already worked out the physics (shiny convoluted under-surface of a roof in a public facing arena) but the Wikipedia back-office story was a really fascinating read. What a project! Thankful that YOU took the picture; I would find the real-life visual distortions utterly migrainous and wholly disorientating. Credos to the picture though.

@piran  This whole County Show/Steam Rally series is terrific. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers. Locally known as the 'Preservation'. Busy weekend for our little village in the summer (usual years). Hope the few I uploaded didn't flood the thread. I usually take between 800-1200 shots on those days... As I run my own server here the numbers can get to be moot 🙂
