How to upload images: Prepare the image as follows: 1.   The image should be sRGB and 8-bits 2.   Reduce the size to 2480 pixels on the longest side. (smaller sizes can be set, but are not recommended) 3.   Sharpen properly for screen. 4.   Save as JPG to your desktop, reducing JPG quality to produce 2000 kB (5000 kB for sponsoring members). 5.   In Lightroom these parameters should be set in the Export dialog. 6.   In the Forum posting or editing box, click “choose Fil

Posted on the Barnack January Challenge - RED. 

The lunar eclipse was visible across most of the US last evening. I've been anticipating the event and wanting to use my Leica Q to try and capture the Blood moon image. I used a Swarovski 80 mm spotting scope which has a zoom eyepiece of 20X - 60X. I mostly operated around 40X magnification. I used the Leica spotting scope adapter that screws into the filter threads on the front of the Q. Shutter speeds varied from 1/60 to 6 seconds during the full eclipse when the moon was really dark and RED. Aperature was always f/1.7 and ISO was mostly 100 except at the full eclipse where I bumped it up to 400. I used a Star Adventurer tracker to track the moon and keep the stars close to points. All in all I'm happy with the results in spite of the setup being very sub-optimal for astrophotography.
