Here is a shot from the mist caused by the unusually warm weather we've had here the last couple of days. To right there you can see the whale watching vessel Niels Jonsson. This image is close to being 100% crop.

Good pastel colours. Nice to see the planet can still give

us these true misty views ...likely as not for us that sort

of view would actually be of pollution during a high pressure

zone of the weather. Sad but unfortunately true. Now, that

boat is just getting further away! Are you not a sea-faring

Icelander:-) Also is that an edge crop or from the centre?

You've just got to love this camera

Agreed. A right old building mess convincingly captured;~)

Not sure but I think the depth of that emergency exit step

out of the door is a bit high - needs an external halfway

step or similar platform. But a convincing capture, I can

almost smell the cooking from all the vents and hear

the condenser fans whirling in those air-conditioners.

The summers here are sure getting more abnormal. We've had an average heat of around 8 degrees Celsius (46 farenheit) here in north Iceland, compared to much warmer summers in recent years closer to 15 degrees (59 farenheit). All the sudden, now close to the end of August we suddenly are seeing up to 20-25 degrees Celsius (77 farenheit) which is way warmer than we are used to here. Weird really! :)

Regarding the cropping, here is the complete image:

Do you know I rather prefer the whole thing... but I see that your

first crop would make a rather nice banner line image at the top

of a web site for instance. Agreed with the weird weather. I think

this year is our year for a more fierce winter than we have been

getting these last five (?) years. Already ordered more wood

and coal to be delivered. On the subject of north Iceland last

week I saw a film called "Prometheus" (science fiction by the

famed director Ridley Scott)... the opening scenes portraying

the story's depiction of the beginning of Man (the species) by

extra-terrestrials was pure Iceland. One that I recognised

very particularly from your pictures. Hope you know the film.

Had a really tough time deciding how or even if I should keep this shot. I agree with you that the uncropped image looks rather interesting, but then again the boat looks like a speck of dirt. Hate it when either way demands a compromise. :)

Really loved Prometheus by the way, just a shame that the sequence shot in Iceland was supposed to take place in Scotland if I remember correctly. :) Iceland is really an amazing place to live in as a photography enthusiast. Just you give you guys an idea on what to expect should you drop by there one day I think this video I saw the other day sums the landscape just about perfectly up (courtesy of Jaromir Stanczyk. To be watched in full HD). Hope it's OK to show you the clip here.

Here's a few of mine from the first 24 hours of Q ownership.  :)

Enjoying your Ikon?

I ride a 2013 Multistrada 1200S Touring.  Tried the Scrambler, but it was really a bit small for me.  Loved that revvy air-cooled engine, though.  If only I was 30 years younger ...

Nice images.

Spellbinding:~0 And the textures and colour streams

of those estuary mud flow (?) flats are positively unreal.

Off to bed now - perhaps to dream of Iceland. Must try

to find a H.G.T.T.G. "Babel fish" for that tricky language.

(...still no Leica Q even on the horizon yet)

Very nice graduation of tones. You are a lucky fellow having this just up the road from home, and then go home and have a nice bottle of Einstok.

Leica's are not purpose built for photographing whales, as I found on a trip from Husavik last summer. (The weather was lovely, mind you.) I had an M9 - useless. Going to see dolphins tomorrow - MM and Q both useless. Time to dust off the DLux6.

Interesting. Any data (ISO? f? speed? Kelvin? handheld? country?)

Trying to assess the lighting variously...

* shop internal probably CFL and maybe some halogen

* shop front external upper centre :: fluorescent but is off ATM

* shop front external upper right (burglar alarm?) :: UV? LED?

* unseen foreground left (behind you) :: street furniture lighting (sodium?)

* ditto above :: highlights on rear TV mast

* low moon in clouds?

* background left wash :: street furniture lighting (sodium?)

* background right wash distant :: street furniture lighting (sodium?)

* background right wash near :: shop external fluorescent? Green neon advertising?

* background right (behind the distant trees) :: a chink of house lighting possibly

* there are no visiting car headlights swinging by ATM

* presumably 'the lights have temporarily gone out' for the included man

Interesting hoardings too... nicotine AND electronic cigarettes but the purpose of

the odd statutory?/community? notice on the far right of the shop front eludes me

("For Your Protection, we care, no...")

PostEdit: (left front container) "Miami DADE COUNTY" ...so the USA?

Piran,

Thanks for your interest! ISO: 6400, f/1.7, 1/30 (Handheld with OIS OFF) Temperature 3450. To be more specific, the photo was taken in West Perrine (Miami), Florida USA at 4:06am.. Not really a safe part of town- a lot of people lurking the streets at night. The mart was lit up inside most likely with halogen lights as you mentioned. The green lighting on the right was very interesting. It lit up some graffiti on the side of the building. I wasn't really looking at the moon, but the area had a pretty decent collection of ambient lighting all around from street lights and other buildings.. The car I was in was not facing toward the building. The purpose of the "mart" is almost like a gas station that doesn't sell gas.. You can go in and pick up some cigarettes, a beer, or whatever else you need at that time of the night. As I mentioned, it's definitely not the safest neighborhood in Miami.

I appreciate you pointing out the regular and electronic cigarettes.. Very nice observation. Here are a couple more shots that I took a little further down south in the Cutler Bay area- 20732917388_647df1e8a6_k.jpg20747931229_9789fc892b_k.jpg

Many thanks for the Q's street photography data

REALLY interesting neighbourhoods:~0

Hope you kept the engine running while you

were taking your photographs   Bit of a blind

sight line for a really poorly located CCTV. Ideal

spot for those woman cooling off after marathon

training and after run warm-down leg stretching.

A nice parking bay for handicapped cyclists too.

Q does a nice job at night, which is great news.

What's the point of the three male murals,

is that a form of street art graffitti over there?

Slightly creepy - three sets of eyes following

you as though to say: "...we're watching you."

Courageous imaging for night street photography

particularly as the Q's 28mm needs you to get

quite close & spend not a little time composing.

Respect.

I couldn't resist, two Iceland pics from last year, M9 with 35mm/f2 and 90mm/f2.8. Jokulsarlon pointing in the other direction and the famous Icelandic band "Grimm" at the equally famous "Reykjavik Bacon Festival".
