lucerne Posted February 4, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) After 4 years with my M9 and various leica lenses, I'm considering one of the M240 variants (with a rear screen). I'll want to use my 21SEM and I do have a simple 21mm viewfinder for the hot shoe which I've used on the M9 in the past. . However, I can't quite work out what the LCD will show. Is it the field of view delivered by the lens or is it a limited field? I feel I should know the answer but I'm not sure and I don't live close enough to dealer to try the body. I'm not planning to have an external EVF. Thanks

david strachan Posted February 4, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2017 Gordon It's exactly what the sensor sees, 100%. By the way, I recommend the EV-2...you can get a cheaper Olympus EV, and remove the Olympus branding. I recommend it, party for the tillable view through the EV. It works very well. all best... 250swb Posted February 4, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 4, 2017 The LCD will show the 21mm view, but I would also recommend an EVF so you don't have to hold the camera at arms length, although on a tripod this isn't necessary. You can get the Olympus version, but keep the Olympus branding on, just to show how sensible you are not to pay over the odds for a Leica logo. I agree. The Leica one is called EVF-2. There are several finders by Olympus with similar names, and only the Olympus VF 2 will work with the M (Typ 240) and any of its variants. The VF 4 will not work at all. Mine is the Leica variant, and I bought it as a demo unit from the dealer who sold me my M, so it was scarcely more expensive than the Olympus one. Both are made by Epson, BTW. The EVF-2 and the VF 2 also work quite well on the X2 and the X Vario, BTW.
jaapv Posted February 4, 2017 Share #6 Posted February 4, 2017 The M240 is a bit on the heavy side to hold at arms length all the time, if you like using it that way at all. Get an EVF. Used ones are not expensive.
Jean-Michel Posted February 4, 2017 Share #7 Posted February 4, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) The EVF works very nicely for the 21. And it has a display of the horizontal and vertical levels. On my M9, I use a plastic VC viewer, nice enough but since it is mounted on a ThumbsUp, I need to make room for the additional viewing error. Much easier to use my 21 (VC) with my M-P; focus quickly with the rf, frame with the evf. Jean-Michel
ru2far2c Posted February 4, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 4, 2017 Is the Olympus EV VF-2 (?) version still available? Or is it only found as second hand on eBay etc? Will a newer version of Olympus EV works as well?
pop Posted February 4, 2017 Share #9 Posted February 4, 2017 .... Will a newer version of Olympus EV works as well? As I said above, the VF 2 will work and none of the others will.

Will a newer version of Olympus EV works as well? Used VF-2s can be found on ebay. That's where I got mine. I do not believe they are manufactured any longer. I proudly display the Olympic branding as another contributor related.
ru2far2c Posted February 4, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 4, 2017 As I said above, the VF 2 will work and none of the others will. Okay I miss understood I guess. Since I do have EVF for my m240. Used VF-2s can be found on ebay. That's where I got mine. I do not believe they are manufactured any longer. I proudly display the Olympic branding as another contributor related. I looked at a few online. will have to wait to get one since getting delivered here is very difficult. Maybe next trip to the US or a place that you can actually get an international package delivered.
