There maybea couple firmware updates coming that some maybe interested in and some may not but Leica has listened very carefully to all therequests and has implemented them or is going to . Fixes you can count on being doen , playback review, AWB , Zebra stripes and such. We talked about many things and leica is really listening to what there customers want and need. BTW the body casing is made in portugal , everything else in Germany. okay more later gotta run to flight. Bt really good stuff ahead. take comfort in that you bought the leica M system it will only grow and get better . They drive the VW Sharan for example. They are made in Portugal too so it was product of my country. They are litle country but they made more things that many think. Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 27, 2007 Share #245 Posted June 27, 2007 Portugal does all the magnesum casting , since this is a very special process and extremely flammable they use oil in the milling but also it can't be near any optical processes because the smell and enviroment could cause probelms with optical coating . So all these process that are like milling are not done anywhere near the optical processes . So done in seperate buildings or in this case for the chassis a seperate country. Very interesting about this setup they use to manufactuer. Something you just don't think about. Also interesting In the Solms factory the cooking of lunch is brought in from Wetzler becuase again they don't want any form of airborne grease in the air with the optical processes it can cause problems. Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 28, 2007 Share #250 Posted June 28, 2007 Still traveling , I landed in Newark and no flights for me to come home , airline screwed up and forgot to change my cities where I was flying to , had my orginal flight home from JFK, so took a car and now i sit on a 2 hour delay from JFK . Who knows if I ever will get out of here , they had blackouts in the city and raining off and on and lightning. needless to say i am not exactly happy, need a shower and just want to go home. Anyway Alleni can't say much becuase leica does not directly answer your questions and they won't but the spirit in which they talk you can tell there is something going on and some things i just can't talk about either. But very open conversation about the present situation and the future and presented some ideas which i thought wouldmake there products better and competive in the market. leica is in business to make money and there new leader Steven Lee will make sure of that. yes some lenses were discontinued only becuase of complexity of building them and soft sales or more likely the Mate was a glass issue where a certain element of glass can no longer be made. This happens becuase of age of some of these lenses the MATE was 11 years ago and that certain element can't be made anymore or there is not enough to produce . so something has to give . Also can only handle a certain number of lenses to be building . They can't handle 60 different lenses but can handle a certain number to be effective so they have a ceratin number that the go by. I am also stuck in the airport, my day began yesterday in Munich at 3:30 AM and it is now 6:30 AM in Dallas (13:30 in Munich) Heavy rains closed down flights to and from Dallas, some have been here for 48 hours already. I will be taking a detour to Reno and driving back to Sacramento, only 65 mph and not in a Porsche . For those of you who have been following the thread at last count over 12,000 of you! I hope that you will look into offerings by the Leica Akademie. Ralph Hagenauer really puts in a lot of hard work to assure that you will not only get to and from your destinations but also have great shooting opportunities. For those of you that have traveled with a tour group to a foreign country, the tours main focus is to get you from point A to point B who cares about the light? The trip was planned for photographers and the images that we as a group captured proves it. Second and most important is the friendships and commeraderie that the Leica family brings out. I know of two wives (Phyllis and Carolyn)who tagged along on the trip who have developed a liking for the VLux. As a long time Leica user it was like walking into a candy store when Ralph opened up the drawers FULL of lenses, camera bodies and UV/IR filters . So I got to celebrate my 50th birthday driving Porsches, taking great images with fantastic equipment, amongst some of the nicest people that I have known. Woodie, Phyllis, Guy, David, Mark, Roger, Carolyn, Christian, Udo and Ralph, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the laughs and thrills of a memorable occasion! We are going through the 2800 images we shot over 12 days and trying to fine a few that capture the essence of the trip. I think most LUF members will be really impressed with the Vlux 1 images Carolyn shot ..particularly the action shots of the Porsche caravan. Considering that she often held the camera outside the window and just aimed in the general direction of the car in front of us....they are amazing. This is of course why I was such a slow driver ! Sat on the runway for 6 bloody hours in the rain. for a smoker not a healthy enviroment:D . I about killed someone to get off that plane this morning. needless to say i was not a happy camper but happy about the trip and getting home finally. I went 12000 miles to get a IR filter and i get home and my 60 mm came. Makes you just chuckle, Still need a 55mm but I will buy one. Of course the trip was absolutely wonderful and all the friendships you make and such as I see Al's and Rogers post above i echo there comments but every trip has a small down side not only was i delayed but my bags must have been sitting in a pool of water. My nice Porsche books are soaking wet and of course everything else in the bags. I immediately started the wash and also fixed my gargage cooler to keep it cool. i guess i came home to 110 degree heat. Just so everyone knows my international part of the travel was great it was all the domestic stuff that was delayed. Hmmm Anyway glad to be home , try to catch up later today. Lot's of stuff to put away and organize. Need to get some work too. LOL I shot over 3900 images in Germany and about 2400 In New York before I left. Just a quick check from folks before i update my machine Mac OS 10.4. whatever it is okay Lightroom 1.1 okay and anything else i need to catch up on wise Aperture i know has M8 support finally Anyway again thanks for following along , maybe not my best images but still some decent ones to give you a idea on where we have been and what we did and that was the intention of the thread from the start. Dear Mr. Chatlos, E55 black and E39 black are available now and will be sent by FedEx at the beginning of next week. I´m sorry but E49 black is still not in stock.
