dseelig Posted June 25, 2007 Share #201 Posted June 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone I am not the kind of person who gets along with everyone. I have so much respect for Guy that I paid more for an item from him then finacially for me I should've. His price was fair it was my budget that is underwhelmed. Some people just like to bring others down because of there own insecurties. It is a shame. I do many kinds of photography and have been most at home doing street work ie Larrry Clark, Robert Frank. Guy I would be happy to look at any of your work serious or not so serious. Thanks for sharing a trip I will probably never be able to do. jonoslack Posted June 25, 2007 Share #202 Posted June 25, 2007 The Leica WATE finder has a screw to tighten it. HI Carsten, it certainly does . . . . but it still drops out
fordfanjpn Posted June 25, 2007 Share #203 Posted June 25, 2007 Having never had the opportunity to visit Europe myself, I for one am fascinated by and thoroughly enjoying all of Guy's posts. I hope you keep the pics coming, and are able to enjoy your trip in spite of this thread. I would like to ask Guy (or anyone who knows) one question: Are you using IR filters on all your lenses? Sorry if you already posted this information earlier. Thanks for all the pics and comments on your trip. And thanks for providing an interface between us and Leica. Your contributions to this forum are invaluable and I'm sure highly appreciated by most. Bill
Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 25, 2007 Share #204 Posted June 25, 2007 I do end this trip with a dinner meeting with Stefan Daniels and also Jesko with quality insurance . Hopefully some of the fixes and also some of the idea's that we all have brought forth in regards to new features and such we can maybe get some answers on. In regards to the finders we came up with a design change that i will bring up to leica or something we can do ourselves . All of the finders i tried the Zeiss, Leica variable and the frankenfinder hit the deck at least one time during this trip with at least someone. The problem is plastic to metal does not create a seal with the top of the hot shoe , so eventually it will loosen and fall out. The idea is to use some type of rubber coating or groves in the screw down with like O ring material that way there is pressure and rubber substance that will stick. We as users may want to come up with some thoughts . i saw the frankenfinder being made and the 4 screws from the metal into the plactic is what needs to come off and than work on that screw down. Now they did use locktite or something similar to put those screws in so we have to replace them in a similar fashion but if we can come up with some easy idea's. Woody mention elmars glue and let it harden and that would make it sticky, which is really what needs to be done to the Leica variable and the Frankenfinder. The Zeiss on both of my bodies is lose and i really have to watch myself or i will lose it . Also the same with diopters on the magnifer one worked itself lose and sits in the streets of Germany somewhere. Metal to plastic or metal will just not stick could enough in the long haul or lots of stress on these parts they will just work there way lose and eventually get lost or broken. Not fun watching a 800 dollar finder hit the deck. maybe a seperate thread would be good to talk about this and some idea's on how to make this work better. It'ds like any other system out there just need to make working adjustments to things that just work better overall. i do like the Frankenfinder much more after working with it now. Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 25, 2007 Share #205 Posted June 25, 2007 Bill i have been using IR filters on every lens and actually there all leica filters on every lens except one and that is the 12mm which until i get home to fix it up correctly i just put it away. so no filter on the 12mm and i just remembered the 75 Lux is a B+W. leica on our tour had 60mm filters being ready for shipping and the Academie had 55mm and 60mm for our use. I have the Nocti with the leica filter that i borrowed all week. i am regretting giving it back , it works like a charm on both my bodies. My apologies to Porsche for spelling the name wrong all week. i'm a little brain dead and i hate laptop keyboards. LOL Keyboards are just not friendly to me:D oh they did have 911's on the trip also and i drove one of them for about 6 hours. We figured we went 600 miles in the cars in three days. The program is called the Porsche travel club and they do a lot of these programs. Also please check out other trips with the leica Academie also , these are some really nice folks to hang out with. BTW there where 2 wifes on this trip that really do not take a lot of photos . Roger and Woody usually are the ones shooting but the ladies did eventually after some help grab a V lux each and frankly they had a ball shooting and there images are great. they really enjoyed being with us and shooting with us and they were tireless in shooting. I got a kick out of that almost more than anything else is to really watch them really enjoy photography. A lesson learned for all of us Makes us all remind us why we even do this . it is for enjoyment in any arena you chose to go into .
Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 25, 2007 Share #206 Posted June 25, 2007 My large ditto to this - Guy is a gent, very helpful, making no claims for these posts other than that they document a fun trip, which they do. He hasn't submitted them for Arles or MOMA. I'm grateful for the news and info he's posted and I can't see where any invitation was made to critique his shots as art. Sometimes a camera is simply used to make a record or file a report and I can't for the life of me see the problem with that. So, Guy, thanks for the record, the report, the news and the whole damned thread. Thanks for being enthusiastic and bouncy - and please, just go right on doing what you do, even without punctuation! ;-) Tim Not to single out your post over anyone else Tim but you hit the heart of the thread. Thanks for that and any other similar comments , that was the intention from the beginning was to have a little fun , nothing more. Guy
carstenw Posted June 25, 2007 Share #207 Posted June 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) HI Carsten, it certainly does . . . . but it still drops out What do you mean? If you tighten the screw there is no way that it *can* drop out. That only happens if it is not tightened... Do you tighten it the right direction? wparsonsgisnet Posted June 25, 2007 Share #208 Posted June 25, 2007 What do you mean? If you tighten the screw there is no way that it *can* drop out. That only happens if it is not tightened... Do you tighten it the right direction? C'mon, Guy does not have a screw loose. What baffles me is that I need a gorilla to get things OUT of my M8 hotshoe and these guys have everything under the sun falling out. I'm gonna buy stock in a company that makes dental floss. dfarkas Posted June 25, 2007 Share #209 Posted June 25, 2007 For those of you that think Guy is tireless, I submit evidence to the contrary. We've all been going and going and going. Early to rise and really late to bed does not make for good rest. But between not sleeping much and the 16 hours of daylight here, we certainly have our fair share of pictures. Shootist Posted June 25, 2007 Share #211 Posted June 25, 2007 Looks like he's wearing a pair of Shure E2c earphones. You guys must be wore out. I drove from Atlanta to Roanoke on Friday, 6+ hours, spent that night and all Saturday with my niece doing various thing, left roanoke Sunday morning @ 8:30 and stopped in on some friends in Asheville NC for lunch and then back to Atlanta, 3+ hours to Asheville and 3+ hours back home. I fell asleep at my PC going over some images I took and didn't want to get out of bed for work this morning. That's the problem with vacations. You need time off to rest up from them. ho_co Posted June 25, 2007 Share #213 Posted June 25, 2007 1) At least some earlier Leica hot shoes had a spring or two pressing up against the finder foot. That would be harder today with the multi-contact shoe, but sprung plates could be placed under the shoe edges. 2) Earlier finders had metal feet with a slit near the edges. If the finder got loose, one could gently bend the edges of the foot a tad to tighten it up. 3) When the M8 came out, there were complaints that the hot shoe was too tight and flash units needed lubrication to mount and unmount. Today the complaint is that the shoe is too loose. Must be a middle road? --HC
carstenw Posted June 25, 2007 Share #214 Posted June 25, 2007 Not so sure about that Bill. LOL but for some strange reason the screw does loosen and i really tightened it down. Really? I have not had that happen yet. I will have to keep my eye on it. My experience is more the opposite so far, in that I tighten it a reasonable amount, and find it very difficult to undo. Guest guy_mancuso Posted June 25, 2007 Share #215 Posted June 25, 2007 No shortage of fast cars and M8's and folks shooting them . shot this with a 90mm macro through the windshield. Now we are kicking some real dirt up and after this the camera was put AWAY and time to hold on for dear life.
