25200 AED = $6850 usd

+ shipping

So you will likely have to pay duty on it when it arrives, right? Unless there's a US trade agreement in place with UAE. I don't track those things but I can't imagine we're a heavy trade partner with them. Just curious as I may want to go the same route as you, but the duty thing scares me a bit.

Thanks.

No duty on cameras and lenses imported to the US. Edited by jarek0423

@abhiram - you're welcome, I hope the shipping is smooth and quick. Just to mention that - I have nothing to do with Leica UAE except that I bought my camera there and the staff is really great, friendly and helpful...I get no commission

It's probably very easy for UPS to find a classification that allows then to charge their fee:

Objective lenses - other 2.3% https://hts.usitc.gov/?query=9002.11.90

Lenses for digital cameras  - Free  https://hts.usitc.gov/?query=9902.23.50

"Lenses designed for digital cameras, the foregoing with focal length 55 mm or more but not over 200 mm and not exceeding 255.2 g in weight (provided for in subheading 9002.11.90)"

"Lenses designed for digital cameras, the foregoing with focal length 17 mm or more but not over 55 mm and not exceeding 765.5 g in weight (provided for in subheading 9002.11.90)"

Is this how others read the schedule?

Strange weight breaks - heavy wides and normals like Noctilux ok but telephotos need to be fly weight

you probably used the wrong HS code.

I didn't use a code at all. That's UPS's job...and since they sometimes fail at the simple task of delivering a package, it seems perfectly plausible that they could have failed at determining the correct duty. (Fedex overcharged me for a package from Germany the other day and just issued a $250 refund.) I have no idea if UPS levied duty wrong or not. I'm just trying to determine what the duty rules determine for different origin countries. @magic, yes, LeicaShop removes VAT. That could well be the kicker. @FrozenInTime, good find and thanks for researching that. I would never have guessed that it varies by focal length.

edited to add: Actually the task of determining duty *should* be pretty straightforward: just plug in the HS code provided by the shipper. The problem is, from what I can tell, HS codes don't translate perfectly into every country's system. It's not perfectly "Harmonized." My company imports clothing and we have found some serious discrepancies in what a given code returns in the US HTS system vs. Germany's.

FYI

Been on a waiting list since Jan 20 with Leica Soho with no updates.

Called my local dealer today and was told the approximate wait time for a black m10 is 2-3 weeks.

TL;DR

SHOP LOCAL.

Why do you feel like this is UPS's job? How are they supposed to know what you are shipping?

FYI- It is not UPS's job...it is the responsibility of the shipper. And if you are the recipient, you are responsible as the one importing the product...its your responsibility to verify the shipper used the correct code or pay the price.

Thought I'd let UK members know the latest from the Leica stores in London.

I put my name down yesterday at the Mayfair store and was told 6 months, maybe less for a silver. Today I popped into the City store and they said July (ie roughly half), that they share a list with Mayfair, and that to list with them I'd need to put down a £2k deposit. Apparently they tend to get around 4 towards the end of each month.

Make of that what you will...

Wow, that's really slow. Was the rollout of the M240 this slow?

much slower...but if you don't want to wait that long, try small dealers.

and it looks like they still have bodies here, and they ship:

http://leicauae.com

That's a bit weird, there is still the banner on their website, saying "limited quantities " but if you try to order the M10, it says "pre-order" so I assume, they ran out of stocks. I called hem last week regarding the spare battery and they said they expect shipment this week.
