Guest Posted March 21, 2017 Share #681 Posted March 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is this true? My only experience with non-marginal VAT is between Canada and the US, wherein you're not going to get it refunded unless you fall into some special category. I'd assume a refund of VAT in the EU comes with the assumption that you're going to be declaring the value of that camera as you enter your destination country. If this is the case and I find myself needing to visit Karlsruhe for work, I might be taking a road trip... Why should I tell you something that is not true? Buyers of goods exported from the EU receive a VAT rebate. But let's stick to cameras. As I said, the camera store gives you a VAT-refund document that is stamped or bar-code scanned at the airport of departure. Once the store receives the form stamped at the airport by mail, or the electronic message from the bar-code scan, the store credits your credit card. That's it. But you don't have to go to the EU to buy a camera. You can order from Leica dealers in the EU and they ship the camera to you by courier service. You pay the ex-VAT price because, as I said above, goods exported from the EU are free of VAT. You have to find out from the dealer how much the shipping cost will be. From France it's expensive US$200+; from the UK it's about 40% of that. But you have to look up the GBP prices in the UK and the USD/GBP exchange rate and compare that to the Euro price and Euro/USD exchange rate. Not a big deal. And forget about Canada for this purpose. _______________ Alone in Bangkok essay on BURN Magazine

digitalfx Posted March 21, 2017 Share #682 Posted March 21, 2017 Weird nobody seems to be receiving their cameras in the US... It's been radio silence for weeks now... lol...did you think every M10 delivery is reported in this forum? Based on conversations with my dealer, they are shipping cameras on a regular basis...but the have "hundreds" of preorders. If you are #100 on the list, the wait is going to be very long...if you are #250, you may want to find another dealer. BTW- if you follow the Facebook group...there is a new owner posting pretty much every other day, so they are clearly shipping.
robert blu Posted March 21, 2017 Share #683 Posted March 21, 2017 You know what I'm curious about? If you're living within a reasonable distance to Wetzlar, what are the chances they keep stock in their factory store? I'd also wonder what the VAT% is... i was in Wetzlar two weeks ago, they have a waiting list as well... robert
@ndy_ellis Posted March 21, 2017 Share #684 Posted March 21, 2017 I supected as much - thanks Robert. Just curious - I was at #13 with Red Dot last time I checked so I'm just letting nature take its course - the longer it takes the longer it give me to devise a justification 'indoors', having only upgraded to a Sony A7RII in December (and with no intention of giving that up)

But there's a decent number of people on this forum waiting, so one would think there would be some deliveries reported. I feel good where I am on waitlists (#1 and #2 on two different ones) and in no huge rush, just curious how the process works and killing time while I wait... AlanJW Posted March 21, 2017 Share #686 Posted March 21, 2017 They are starting to ship again in the US, I think. My dealer told me today that mine had shipped from Leica US and I should have it by the end of the week. (Silver; black seems harder to get)

FWIW, I just got an email from my store (the one I'm #2 at at the moment), and they were told by their Leica rep to expect new shipment "in the next few weeks" (it's a Leica boutique, they had received a few cameras after the announcement, so that would their second shipment).
6bit Posted March 22, 2017 Share #689 Posted March 22, 2017 More than two months since launch and no (or close to no) extra batteries in the USA. Normal for Leica? No EVF and no wall charger. Would love to hear anyones answer to this.

Would love to hear anyones answer to this. Im surprised its taken this long too, I would think they have to ship via sea from Indonesia which would explain some of the delay, but its now been 2 months. Either there is an issue with shipping or Leica's logistics department screwed up. They aren't even showing up on Ebay.

TheDrift- Posted March 22, 2017 Share #697 Posted March 22, 2017 As a new comer to Leica here is my dilemma, I have placed an order for an M10 I have one lens in hand and will likely order another when I am a bit further up the que. If my wait is going to be a solid 4 or 5 months I would likely buy a cheap m8/m9 and be happy to wait. If my wait is going to be a month or two I would just wait for the M10. My dilemma is I just don't know?! All people want is a fair ordering system, based on a first come first served basis, and an approximate expected wait time? Is that really to much to expect? cp995 Posted March 22, 2017 Share #698 Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) ... All people want is a fair ordering system, based on a first come first served basis, and an approximate expected wait time? Is that really to much to expect? What would YOU do, if acting à la "first come first serve" and one of your long term loyal customers asks for a new camera. You tell him that there are thousand others on the list before? Will never happen, neither at Leica nor anywhere else in the real world ... Surelythisnameisfree Posted March 22, 2017 Share #700 Posted March 22, 2017 I don't think it's a British thing and if that kind of thing is going on then the dealers who do it don't deserve to be Leica dealers
