Harrison Cameras led me to believe they had not received any cameras to fulfil customer orders yet (my M10 handgrip has arrived but no camera), they do however have one demo model in store. I was told I am number 5 on their waiting list for a black one and I ordered it about an hour after the store opened on the 19th. Harrison Cameras is a good store and I would be surprised if they started selling online before fulfilling their existing back orders. This was ONLY the battery - not the camera. They must have had a couple of M10 batteries in stock and I snagged one of them. No reports of cameras appearing in any quantity anywhere. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

In the past when I've been looking to buy a product with a long waiting list I've often found it in-stock at provincial Leica dealers like Harrisons and Wilkinsons, retailers that are off the radar of many Leica buyers. Yes, but that doesn't change my general experience of finding back-ordered products more easily via the provincial dealers. I should also point out that I've also bought more than one hard to obtain product from dealers with whom I have an existing relationship irrespective of any waiting list they might have with other customers (not Harrisons though, I ought to state). If a customer is in the shop (or already on the phone) with a credit card in his or her hand it is often easier to sell the product there and then than get on the phone and call a customer on the waiting list. Perhaps unethical but then if there is no guarantee the customer on the waiting list will actually purchase the kit, I'd take the path of least resistance. What I find unusual this time is that Leica in Germany seem to want a list of names of people who have put their names down/deposits down for the M10. I also find it odd how there's quite a lot of inconsistency with the waiting list situation.. for example.. Leica Mayfair (flagship UK store) - waiting list but no deposit needed Leica City (Satellite Leica UK store) - waiting list but £2000 deposit needed to be on the list Leica Manchester (dealer) - waiting list 10% (£560) deposit needed I guess Leica's idea is to stop people being on multiple lists but is there someone in Germany checking lists for duplicate names? Seems strange. I assume Leica Mayfair are happy they will shift the stock even if people cancel their pre-order so don't take a deposit but why would the other smaller Leica store ask for a 2k deposit? I would happily pay in full if it would bump me up the list. I don't see anything unethical about this. The problem is that if it will take months then I'd rather I have my money than someone else holding it for an undefined time. Well it's not arrived yet but the point was that the second I ordered it the store was showing out of stock so I'm guessing they only had one or 2 in. It was not that long ago that one or two people on this forum got burnt putting down hefty deposits for expensive items like the Noctilux at well established retailers like Jacobs. Given that someone decided to cancel their order, the camera would scarcely be left on the shelf gathering dust, and given that the commitment to supply the camera within any particular time – or even within any particular reasonable time is completely open ended, I think that this is a really unfair requirement.I spoke to one of these three Leica dealers and the guy told me that the 10% non-refundable deposit was a compulsory requirement by Leica. Could this really be true?Luckily, I found another shop who put me on their queue with only a very small refundable deposit. I thought this was absolutely decent and normal behaviour. As it happens they also have a much smaller queue than the others.The expectation was that I would be supplied much earlier than the timescale provided by the three other shops. Of course, their timescale could easily change, but it altogether sounded more promising and also I'm not tied to them. I have simply put my marker down.
