I voted NO for several reasons about a week ago. But after a third play session with the M10, I fell prey to it's charms. So, I gotta eat my words as I just picked up a silver M10 with the elusive red APO 50!!

For some odd reason, I still like the 240 rangefinder better than the M10 - I find it easier to focus. Could possibly be something to get used to. The responsiveness of the camera, the back LCD screen, and the EVF are superb comparatively.

Each time a new camera grabs my attention I ask myself one question: How can this camera make me a better photographer?

There are only two reasons to upgrade over my M9(one day in faaaar future):

1. M9 Shutter sound

2. Better ISO

Much of reason that many of us fell in love with Leica`s is/was the simplicity. I wonder how far Leica can go with M without getting too modern and at the same time stay pure in this digital madness.

Yeah, those are my two main buying points as well. But the M240 covered them also.

Better (well, preferable to me) color than the M240 is what really got me moving. And the larger, more accurate finder got me moving into top gear.

Hello everyone, I hope you're all very well.

I have an M240 and a Leica SL with a range of lenses. I've ordered an M10 from Ffordes (up North) and am excited about receiving it. It will be my first brand new M.  I shoot a lot in low light so for me, this is a great improvement. I also like it's (slightly) smaller size which does make a difference.

Have a great day.

Kind regards.

Mark

I am for the M going down the route of purity and simplicity, and the M10 sounds near perfect. I have no use for an EVF but don't mind the option being there. WiFi , however , I wish Leica had resisted. It's an inclusion that most others would appreciate, but it turns me off. It suggest the M10 is part of the flood of networked devices we are drowning in. It's now another device on the internet, and that has to be secured against electronic intrusion. No longer a self-standing tool. Yes I can turn it off. But in some ways wifi is a more consequential inclusion than video, which a lot of people here have said (and I agree) they are glad is not included. That can also be turned off, but most of us are glad that something extraneous is just omitted. It's not a deal breaker, but given the choice I would rather not have WiFi. I have enough damned devices with WiFi.

Not sure if you're aware, the WiFi function of the M10 can be turned off. The WiFi Radio will be OFF and thats that. No security issues, no intrusion.  :)

I have an M240 and an SL.I have a stack of good Leica glass. I pre-ordered the M10, but having reflected a little I have cancelled. In truth, I had hoped for an EVF/OVF combination. There are too few improvements for me to consider this a wise purchase for me. I am interested to see where Leica takes the M, in particular in terms of innovation. I wish they had been bolder, as they had been with the SL. So, I will sit out this iteration and see if their courage returns. It's not for me.

Since Leica dropped its R's clients , I decided not to buy anything from Leica any more.

Worse, I sold everything, my Re, R6 and four R lenses, my M3 (since 1963), my M6 with four M lenses.

I am freed from Leica now.

I remember when Leica was telling us that a digital M wasn't possible because of the too short distance from lens to sensor.....and now and M10 ?

As did many Leica owners... and now they are telling us an EVF in a M body isn't possible. Which is total nonsense of course if you have any understanding at all...

The fact is, some people just don't want to even add an additional thing to the M range as they think if it is successful, then it may spell the end of the mechanical OVF M.

Which I think is nonsense... there will always be those who want the M as it is... and the M10 tends to suggest Leica know exactly how to please those customers.

Now all they need to do is please those of us who see the advantage in both and those new customers who want a high quality camera without all the 'weird stuff' that an M entails... (and yes, to sensible consumers who appreciate the quality, the "M' s little oddities look daft, rather than 'quaint' or 'traditional').

I can see myself with an M10-P and an M10-E in the not too distant future...

I think they have realised that telling people something 'can't be done' and then doing it a few years later, just gets 'old' very quickly and some customers (understandably) just end up losing faith in anything they say...

I'm not sure I understand this.  If the M10 is anything like the SL, it's not a case of turning off WiFi, but turning it on.  It's default is Off, and you have to turn it on when you need it.  If you never use it, you wouldn't know it was there.

If you do turn it on, you the choice of creating a WLAN or - (1) remote control by App (in which case, you can use your iPhone or iPad as a remote), or (2) Web Server.  I've never created a WLAN or used the web server  as the App is so easy to use (once you get the pairing done).  I guess what I'm saying is that I understand the conceptual reluctance to have everything linked to the internet, that's not really the case with the SL or the M10 (as I understand it).  There's no browser, no email and no downloading apps or updates directly into the camera from the web - no risk of spam or malware ...

The risk - when the Wifi function is on and not secured properly - are botnets. If you google this, you find tons of discussion about it. I did not know that this existed and it sounded like ridiculous phantasy at first to me - but it exists, and it is not really ridiculous - like some other things we have to learn that they are real at least since some day on November last year.

To be honest, I only use WiFi for remote control, and then only when I'm using a tripod - so mostly when taking landscape images, and then it is most likely to be somewhere wild where there is a pretty reduced risk of botnets, I would think ...

I have already traded in my 240 (and some other rarely used stuff) for an m10, now on order at my local (excellent) Leica Store.

I was uncertain until I tried the M10 with my existing Leica T Visoflex (the same version that works on the M10). I found the usability of my collection of R lenses and my hard to focus Summilux 75 not to my liking on the M240 and the M10 makes these much, much easier to use. While the EVF may not be perfect, it is a vast upgrade over the M240's grainy, slow mess.

More importantly, I do many evening/low light events. The ISO dial makes shooting much easier in a darkened room and the 1.5 to 2 stop improvement is just what I needed.  Plus a better OVF.

Better EVF, OVF, easy to adjust ISO dial (but only in full stops), better low light performance were exactly the things I was looking for. Would have preferred an integrated, in-body EVF, but what is new was a good enough package of features/benefits.

I am not sure the improvements are enough for me to purchase. I will have to test and see if the new sensor is really sharper with more contrast and better color before I buy. I have the M(240) and i do not really require much processing for great results. I do not need a thinner camera. I have the grip on the M now since I like more grip. I have carried my R system so long that it was actually nice for me to have the thicker M versus my 7. I would rather see the next monochrome version, before I decide n which body to add.

If this is your criteria, you should stay with the M240.

Its not sharper and contrast is a post process...better color yes.

1 out of 3 not bad.

It is clearly not thanks to you that Leica survived and was able to finally offer the amazing SL for those who kept their R system or are buying those R lenses now.

Not to mention Leica first try at that, the M240 + EVF.

It was a bumpy road but I don't regret any of the cameras that came out during Leica's travel to redemption.

The R9, DMR, M8, M9, M240 and SL only to mention those that I have.

Others will mention the MM's, the Q or the S and all those amazing lenses.

They survived the transition to digital only because of their great, compact lenses and early on no alternatives to FF mirrorless cameras. With technology having advanced much more, it seems now they are on a roll with three winners in a row, the Q, the SL, and the M10.
