One of the best lenses ever made by Leica/Leitz. Mine has given great results on my M10. It would not work on earlier digital Ms.

William

Mine just arrived today William - I paid a bit over the odds, but it's incredibly clean with perfect glass and aperture blades and lovely smooth aperture and focus.

This is the only picture I've taken with it so far!

All the best

Both wonderful shots. What an incredible rendering you have captured.

It's like being transported back to the beauty of images from Victorian plate cameras, with their exceptional deep tonality and rapid focus fall-off.

Thank you for your kind words, but it's really the lens (and the M10M's sensor) that did the job here.

The lens is an interesting one: out of curiosity, I have had it fully dismantled, tested on an optical bench and CLA'd recently. This confirmed that its particular rendering, with a relatively sharp center, very fast focus fall-off and low contrast was a design choice, possibly aimed at portrait photography - or perhaps, since very few of these were made, just an experiment during the "race for speed" that took place in Japan in the mid-50's. Teikoku Kogaku, its manufacturer, also produced the contemporary Zunow 50/1.1, which shares some of the imaging characteristics of the 50/1.3 while being marginally faster and somewhat more "usable" for general photography (especially when stopped down), but also significantly larger and heavier.

Here are two more, again with the Zunow 50/1.3 on the M10M, both @ f/1.3

Then you might also like the flare from the (M-mount version) 50/3.5 Elmar-M with the M10. 🙂
