menos I M6 Posted July 27, 2015 Share #2453 Posted July 27, 2015 Brian, these 8.5 cm f2 Sonnar lenses are soooo underrated! I am still wondering why one doesn't see more people using them. Their character is just so pretty. On one occasion I almost bought one, incidentally I had my 8.5/1.5 Nikkor LTM with me that day and could make a quick and dirty comparison between the two in the shop at apertures f2 - f4 and here is the crazy thing: there was hardly ANY difference between the two at these apertures in how sharp they were in focus, how beautiful the background was and how beautiful the sharp areas transitioned into background blur. The very affordable 8.5/2 Nikkor PC LTM is every bit as great as it's much, much more expensive big sister the rare 8.5/1.5 and hence it's such a no brainer to have one of these. I also found, it really is the next best (and in some regards even better) thing to a real 8.5/2 CZJ lens. Every Sonnar lover should have one of these Nikkors. Here is one with my favorite 35/1.4, the pre FLE ASPH on the Mono stopped down a bit I remember: supper by teknopunk.com, on Flickr

I find it easier to follow the action with a Rangefinder camera, seeing out of the frame is an advantage. Not all the shots of fast-moving/jumping dolphins were in focus, but most were.
