Ecar Posted May 27, 2024 Share #13346 Posted May 27, 2024 From the "forgotten lenses" drawer: a modern replica of the Jupiter-3 Soviet lens (itself a copy of the CZJ Sonnar 50/1.5) made by Zenit/KMZ for Lomography in 2016 and discontinued shortly thereafter. It was recomputed to do away with focus shift and remains overall faithful to the original's character - only a bit sharper and with bolder colors, presumably due to the newer coatings. I took the picture below (daughter working on party dress...🙄) several years ago, but now that it's been un-forgotten, I'll be posting a few more shortly - if only because I couldn't find pictures taken with this lens on the forum. Interesting indeed. Is it an LTM lens?

The dedicated site is still up, although when I asked Lomography earlier today, they confirmed that it was discontinued years ago. Edit: it seems that a couple of eBay sellers had stashed away a few copies (or had them built...) so if anyone wants one and feels adventurous... In keeping with the thread's rules😉, here's one with the M11 and a converted 1954 Angénieux S21 50/1.5 wide open Welcome, dear visitor! But retrieving the lens had me go the Lomography website (hadn't checked it for a while): I noticed the J-3+ wasn't there, so I sent them an email. Within a few hours, I received the following reply from their Head of Online Shop & Customer Service: "Yes, the jupiter 3+ is unfortunately out of production for some years already." There may still be (or have been) some kind of local "grey production", though. But it seems very much unofficial and probably illegal: no boxes, no guarantee, etc. M11 + converted 1959 B&L Baltar 40/2.3, wide open Welcome, dear visitor! Ecar Posted May 28, 2024 Share #13353 Posted May 28, 2024 A few unremarkable shots to illustrate the rendering of this lens at f/1.5. Note the slight pincushion distortion on the last picture (although this is not a complex one and easily correctable with -3 in LR).
