Phew, it's difficult to figure out how to do. Here's a backlight picture taken with a Tele Elmarit 90 mm 2.8 on a M9-P. Funny effect which is straight from the camera.

Welcome hydet and F.Juul to the probably most interesting thread to follow on this forum!

Hydet, please share more from this rare lens, and may I suggest even though this is of course very personal and to ones very own taste, to scale back a little bit on the clarity/ contrast on processing images from the classic Sonnar lenses?

These are lenses which render especially backgrounds unbelievably smooth and this can be easily "ruined" by a few clicks in post processing.

F.Juul - beautiful photograph, especially with the backlight!

More from the same Jupiter 50mm f1.5/MM combination. SOOC. I've learnt more about old lenses from reading this thread than at any other point in my life.

Very glad to hear this, Mangopen, it's one of the main reasons I decided to start this thread in the first place.:) As they say 'a picture paints a thousand words'.

Yesterday I played a little with my M8 and an IR filter on SOOIC (2/50 screw Summicron). It's handy with the "R index" on that lens

Jean-Marc,

The authority for all-things-Canon-rangefinder-lenses is Peter Kitchingman, who's also active on RFF. He has compiled an impressive database of Canon lenses and their numerous versions,

This is summarised in a beautiful self-published book titled "Canon M39 Rangefinder Lenses 1939-71", which he sells on eBay under username "7sz". He had only a a relatively small run printed, but I just checked and he seems to have a few copies available.

He also used to make this info freely available on the web (http://www.canonrangefinder.com), but the site has been down for several months now - due to hosting issues, I understand.

Hope this helps.
