I've bought an Elmar 90mm f4 very cheaply to have a go at 90mm photog without breaking the bank. I had to clean some oil of the aperture blades and clean the internal glass surfaces. The contrast is lower than my other lens, which is easily adjusted. The lens is best used at f5.6 or f8 and despite being made in 53 years ago can still do the business.

The pictures below were taken at f5.6, iso400, on an M9.

35 Summicon v.4 (1980) convex focus tab - see: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/307947-summicron-35-v-4-rainbow-effect.html Seems to work pretty good to me with spot on focus and sharp as I could want.....

Stumbled upon a used 1970's Jupiter 8 in a local camera shop yesterday. Looked very clean so, as I had my camera, took a few shots (just to try it out, of course) and managed to leave the shop without succumbing to temptation. After all, how can a lens so cheap be any good? After all the Russian lens has questionable QA and focus issues.....

But the test images looked ok - looked pretty sharp (tested at high iso) and seemed to focus ok.

Denial lasted all of one day. Went back today and bought it.

Quick test shot from tonight:

Not bad at all. And consistent.

M(240) and Jupiter 8 (wide open and iso 1600)

Lightroom 5.2 and Silver Efex Pro 2 (minimal processing from neutral image)
