menos I M6 Posted January 15, 2013 Share #703 Posted January 15, 2013 This is a difficult one … 1951 Russian Jupiter beauty ring + Russian 8.5cm ƒ2 barrel of unknown manufacture date, earlier than 1951 + potentially war time Carl Zeiss optical cell of Carl Zeiss Sonnar 8.5cm ƒ2 lens - the whole package officially assembled and adjusted for Leica LTM register in 1951 ;-) These are the very first shots wide open @ ƒ2 on the Leica M9 from a moving car - it looks to potentially become a favourite lens of mine: 8.5cm f2 Carl Zeiss Jupiter-9 - Gabelstapler by teknopunk.com, on Flickr 8.5cm f2 Carl Zeiss Jupiter-9 - delivery man with motorcycle by teknopunk.com, on Flickr 8.5cm f2 Carl Zeiss Jupiter-9 - pushing child over street by teknopunk.com, on Flickr I am now officially hooked on the Carl Zeiss Sonnar drug and want mooooore! I didn't know that there could be something so special about the original Sonnar lenses after loving the Japanese Sonnar designs from Canon and Nikon so much.

farnz Posted January 15, 2013 Author Share #706 Posted January 15, 2013 ... These are the very first shots wide open @ ƒ2 on the Leica M9 from a moving car - it looks to potentially become a favourite lens of mine.... It's a favourite of mine too, Dirk. I refer you to the very first post in The view through older glass thread. ... I am now officially hooked on the Carl Zeiss Sonnar drug and want mooooore! ... . Oh, I know that feeling. For a list of Sonnars, have a look at this thread. (Not for the easily-shocked Sonnar-lover.) Pete.
erl Posted January 16, 2013 Share #707 Posted January 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Been carrying the 111f + 50 Summitar (1952) for a few weeks now. Feeling very comfortable. Slower than my M9 outfit, but so what! Some of the best things in life take a little longer. Following is a selection from my most recent film. All 111f + 50/2.0 Summitar. Ilford FP4+ rated at 250ISO, dev in XTOL 1:2 for 11min @ 24Deg in JOBO AutoLab 1500. Scanning on Nikon CoolScan 5000. The landscape pic had a Red filter. Welcome, dear visitor! farnz Posted January 16, 2013 Author Share #710 Posted January 16, 2013 Thanks Pete! Is your CZJ lens coated? My CZJ 85/2 Sonnars? My LTM has a purplish coating and my Contax RF mount has a bluish coating. All the rest of my CZJ Sonnars are coated apart from my 1936 CJZ 50/1.5 Sonnar in LTM. Guest JMF Posted January 17, 2013 Share #716 Posted January 17, 2013 Hi, just came across an interesting article and I thought I'd share this itw about the Cooke look: Jon Maxwell on the Cooke Look | Film and Digital Times I've always been charmed by the 70's cine Cooke lenses and hopefully some of these lenses will be used with the future M 240 (with some vignetting) ! Cheers Jean-Marc.

menos I M6 Posted January 18, 2013 Share #718 Posted January 18, 2013 Albek, welcome to the forum! That Canon Serenar 50/1.4 is a very highly regarded vintage lens, some say, the nicest improved Sonnar design, made by the Japanese optical companies! Please share more photographs! menos I M6 Posted January 18, 2013 Share #719 Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) 75 Summilux v2 + Mono: against the light by teknopunk.com, on Flickr not towing by teknopunk.com, on Flickr trucks by teknopunk.com, on Flickr bag by teknopunk.com, on Flickr I finally gave in Yesterday and calibrated the rangefinder of the Mono, which I carry around since a few months with misaligned RF. That in return enabled me to use my 75 Lux the first time on the camera in my medium subject distance field test ;-) All shot between ƒ1.4 - ƒ2.8 from a moving car. I plan, to shoot the 75 Lux a little more and go back to the much nicer 85/1.5 Nikkor and 85/2 Carl Zeiss Jupiter, once the Lux is confirmed spot on (looks good for now). [EDIT] Just scrolling up this thread after posting - the highly regarded 75 Summilux (and also much loved by myself for it's beautiful rendering) simply stands not a bit of a chance against such heavyweight champion 85mm Sonnar designs, as the Carl Zeiss wartime and super fast Nikkor 8.5cm Sonnars. I can't believe how creamy and beautiful especially the background rendering of the Sonnars is compared to the already very, very nice Summilux. It looks like the Summilux from now on is only on close focus and stopped down duty as there it simply murders the Sonnar in performance and looks. I understand, that Peter Karbe disliked the 75 Summilux and designed the 75 Summicron instead. He probably owns a wartime Carl Zeiss Sonnar 8.5cm for when he wants creamy bokeh - hehe [tongue in cheek, you know?]. JeffoJeffo Posted January 19, 2013 Share #720 Posted January 19, 2013 Been very busy lately....didn't have time to shot but things are slowing down a bit now. Just got back this lens from Japanese master after few months passing around between masters......this lens is quite special and rare. From what I know is that this lens was made from a small German company which didn't last for long. How famous it is? The movie 'Gone with the wind' was shot with one of this lens. Here is how it performs on a Monochrom. Askania Kino Anastigmat 75mm f1.8 + MM Welcome, dear visitor!
