01af Posted December 23, 2012 Share #643 Posted December 23, 2012 Testing this Carl Zeiss Planar 85 mm T1.4 / f1.2 on S2 Nice pictures, as always, and very nice rendition ... but what makes you believe it was an f/1.2 lens?
JeffoJeffo Posted December 24, 2012 Share #644 Posted December 24, 2012 Nice pictures, as always, and very nice rendition ... but what makes you believe it was an f/1.2 lens? It's marked T1.4 for movie and f1.2 for camera. That's why I said is f1.2. Perhaps I am wrong?
elgenper Posted December 24, 2012 Share #645 Posted December 24, 2012 It's marked T1.4 for movie and f1.2 for camera. That's why I said is f1.2. Perhaps I am wrong? These numbers say that the geometric f/stop value for the lens is indeed 1.2 (i.e. the entry pupil has a diameter that is 1/1.2 of the focal length). T is for transmission value, which is less than the geometric value since there are light losses in a complex lens. The movie industry has traditionally been extra careful with correct exposure (natural when considering what a single scene costs to setup and shoot), so they use the more exact T value when determining lighting and camera settings. So, your lens should indeed be an f/1.2 one, using the standard way of describing a lens.

Perhaps I am wrong? Seems you're right—I just see the front ring inscription in your picture of the lens, and there it says, 1:1.4, which usually refers to the geometric aperture. algrove Posted December 25, 2012 Share #652 Posted December 25, 2012 OK, here goes. This is an R lens on the new MM. APO 4.0/280 @ 4.0 or 5.6 ISO 2500 1/45th in a stiff wind. Used a Ricoh GXR to prefocus and after removing the GXR then put the MM on the Novoflex adapter. Welcome, dear visitor! menos I M6 Posted December 27, 2012 Share #658 Posted December 27, 2012 Ok, this is a tricky one: - in photo: Leica Mono + 8.5cm ƒ1.5 Nikkor LTM and 3.5cm ƒ1.8 Nikkor LTM - first and second photo shot with Graflex Crown Graphic + Fuji ISO3200 instant film - last photo shot Nikon D3 + 60/2.8 Micro + SB900 (my "scanner") All lenses, involved are clearly not in production anymore and are preferred by me over their contemporary samples. I love the Nikkors and slowly am warming up on the 147mm 4.7 lens on my Graphic ;-) This morning, checking the rangefinder of the 4x5: camera and coffee for RFF by teknopunk.com, on Flickr
menos I M6 Posted December 27, 2012 Share #659 Posted December 27, 2012 I fell in instant love with the 3.5cm ƒ1.8 W-Nikkor LTM the moment, I saw the first shots from this mid 1950's design. What absolutely impressed me instantly was, how even the field of this lens is with minimal distortion (is there any?), extremely high sharpness and very high, modern contrast already wide open. This lens absolutely murders the Leitz Summilux pre ASPH, which has been introduced to market only 5 years later with much inferior optics. I wish, Nikon would still be around and push the boundaries with rangefinder lenses! 35 f1.8 W-Nikkor LTM - argument by teknopunk.com, on Flickr 35 f1.8 W-Nikkor LTM - light by teknopunk.com, on Flickr
