Leican Posted September 9, 2010 Share #1741 Posted September 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) as much as i love my MP, i had to let it go... the film situation is stinking horrible here in indonesia... i m going back to digital, not because i like it but because it's juz impractical and devastatingly impossible to use films in my country... Too bad to hear that ! I was traveling in Java and Bali early this year, films were really hard to buy. In Thailand, "135mm Tri-x400" is around 230 - 250 baht ( $8 ) and can only be found at certain camera shops in Bangkok. By the way, I love Indonesia, Java and Bali are so rich in culture, love trekking in Java and Bali, mounts Bromo / Agung :-) ... will definitely travel in Indonesia again soon in Sumatra, Maluku, Borneo etc.

lincoln_m Posted September 13, 2010 Share #1744 Posted September 13, 2010 Macbookguy, Very nice combo. Glad you went for it. Quality kit. The lens will look just as good in 20 years. Penzes, Wow that is a very beautiful photograph. How do you get the white and silver parts to be luminous when the rest is in deep shadow? Amazing! Macbookguy Posted September 13, 2010 Share #1745 Posted September 13, 2010 Macbookguy,Very nice combo. Glad you went for it. Quality kit. The lens will look just as good in 20 years. Thanks. But the lens is heavy, when I place the camera on a table standing on its bottom plate it wants to tilt forward and lean on the lens.

There was enough light, but with the shade I was able to manage deep black on the site. making off!

rob139 Posted September 17, 2010 Share #1748 Posted September 17, 2010 Hi. Can anyone tell me what the black rubber thing between the rewind lever and the hot shoe is? And, Is it possible to find out when this camera was made (number 29235XX), apparently it has been sitting on a shelf for quite some time. It's about time that this one hits the street. farnz Posted September 17, 2010 Share #1749 Posted September 17, 2010 Rob, Mine doesn't have the black rubber thingy so it seems as though a thoughtful and caring previous owner has applied a teeny, tiny doorstop to prevent contact between the rewind lever and the hotshoe. I can't help with the serial number because my sources indicate that 29235xx was manufactured in 1978 but the (new) MP was released in 2003 so that can't be right. IIRC, serial numbers for M cameras don't necessarily follow a pattern in the way that lens serial numbers do. Pete.
menos I M6 Posted September 18, 2010 Share #1750 Posted September 18, 2010 Rob, the black rubber dot is one of many hints, that Leica up sells old M6 bodies ;-) On a less sarcastic note, this rubber dot has been on Leica M6 bodies, to prevent the plastic tip of the rewind lever, to contact the body and leave marks. You can check the possible production date either on Summilux.net or via Erwin Puts' Leica pocket guide, which is available as a pdf download.

shootinglulu Posted September 21, 2010 Share #1754 Posted September 21, 2010 The Mp and M7 are the same price, is this due to quality versus technology? Sorry i am a film newbie:confused:
Stealth3kpl Posted September 21, 2010 Share #1755 Posted September 21, 2010 It's odd isn't it. You would think the MP would cost a lot more being fully mechanical. Bargain! (I like your flickr account by the way) Pete
walt Posted September 22, 2010 Share #1756 Posted September 22, 2010 Although an active MP user I have not been very active on this forum or others for that matter. I love using the MP which I upgraded to in 2007 from an M6 I had used since 1994. I exclusively use it with a 35 f2 cron (asph) and I'm tempted to get a 75 f2 to compliment my shooting. Apologies for the digital shot taken from a sony video camera but I thought it was time it joined its brothers and sisters....(depending on how you look at it). Welcome, dear visitor! rob139 Posted September 22, 2010 Share #1758 Posted September 22, 2010 Here is my new (to me) MP. It is sooo smooth! Very happy with it, I will probably use it for B&W photography mainly, got the red and yellow filter out of the storage bag. The first roll of Tri-x is in the box right now. Welcome, dear visitor! zipper Posted September 22, 2010 Share #1759 Posted September 22, 2010 strange, the more I use my M8 (a great camera) - the more I like my MP and film - I couldn't swap one for the other...

I use this very combo and can verify that the 35 and 75 complement each other perfectly.
