Compare this to the location of the serial number in my ALC MP in post #4509 where the serial number is more "centered" in that general area of the camera. I have not seen this before. wattsy Posted November 17, 2021 Share #4503 Posted November 17, 2021 Must admit I also thought the serial number position looks a bit weird on the MP in post #4510.
ianman Posted November 17, 2021 Share #4504 Posted November 17, 2021 (edited) They have added a space before and after the hyphen. Mine is again different to both 4510 and 4518 as it has no white space surrounding the hyphen and is center aligned to the shoe rather than being left aligned as on 4510. Note: I wish to apologize for the appalling state of my MP. I'm off to clean it right away and there will be no dessert for me for a week!! Welcome, dear visitor! Nowadays the serial numbers do not correlate with the completion date of the respective camera. The number is engraved at the time the cover plate is manufactured. The assembly of the individual parts into a camera can take place much later. Therefore a newer camera may have a lower number than an older one. Also it is not possible to draw conclusions about how many cameras were built in a period "x". I received this information directly from Leica Wetzlar.

My next new digital may well be silver chrome. Brassing on a BP is nice but a classic look right out of the box is great, too.
