I had the 1.25x version once and sold it. Unfortunately, I do not remember why. Probably because of the protruding bump on the back of the camera. Two questions: 1. Which one would you suggest (1.25x or 1.4x) when I'm mostly shooting a 50mm lens (actually it's the 45mm Planar) 2. Does the protruding bump bother you when wearing the camera around your neck? 1. I find the 1.25x to be a good compromise of magnification and size. 2. It doesn't protrude any more than the thumb grips I use, so I haven't noticed. Advertisement Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 Hi plaidshirts, Take a look here Leica magnifier 1.25x advice. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marchyman Posted April 19, 2022 Share #22 Posted April 19, 2022 I use a 1.25 when a 75mm lens is mounted to my M 262. I don't think I'd use it with a 50mm lens, but I don't have a 50mm for my M so can't say for sure. The protruding bump doesn't bother me, possibly because with my 75mm lens the camera tends to hang from its strap lens down.

I wouldn't be without it now on my M. Would it be possible to hav a slight diopter adapter? I find my M9 Monochrom has the optimal place virtually for the RF patch; however on my newer camera I have to squeeze my eyes, strain them. I do wear glasses. Over time of course I need new glasses (last time 3 years ago), and that agrravates the problem of seeing clear close by. now that tells me that adding a slight diopter would bring the virtual position of the RF spot closer to where it is on the M9M. Slight - not intended to replace my glasses. is that a good reasoning, idea?
a.noctilux Posted April 27, 2022 Share #24 Posted April 27, 2022 Depending on how much you need slight diopter, I see +0.5 order 14350 and -0.5 order 14355 @Alberti in your place, I'd visit nearest Leica dealer to take a test of diopters.

jaapv Posted April 30, 2022 Share #26 Posted April 30, 2022 Leica used to sell a diopter ring to fit with your own lens, but as far as I know stopped doing so, as most opticians switched from manual lens shaping machines to automatic ones, and those cannot do a round 10 mm lens.
Alberti Posted April 30, 2022 Share #27 Posted April 30, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, indeed found the nearest dealer (kameraExpress) lists them, € 155.- but it is for a Leica M (the picture shows a film camera) so I'm 100% sure this is not for a digital M10. Jaap will be right, not available. But wait . . . 1) I probably should visit my optician & [also] get myself a new pair of lenses measured, because when new, the distant part allows reading sharp to less than 1m, by now it is worse and drifting towards 2m. - For me, wearing my bi-focal glasses, infinity is sharp, and my natural vision is sharp with a 'visus' of 140 ; i.e. a 20/10-vision - , so I also quickly see any deviations. 2) BHP says something in line with my reasoning and suggests I look in my manual. Quote Improving the viewfinder image for far-sighted users, this Leica Correction Lens M provides a +0.5-dioptric adjustment to the camera's finder for more comfortable viewing and a reduced need for wearing eyeglasses while shooting. Leica rangefinders, by default, are preset to -0.5 diopters, and this correction lens will bring the final strength to 0.0 diopters. Manual: The Leica Correction Lenses M [Material number 24008] provide optimum eye-to-camera matching for the M10, making composing images in the viewfinder more precise and comfortable. They are available in grades of +/- 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 diopters. Please note that the Leica M-Viewfinder is preset by default to -0.5 diopters to guarantee a comfortable view through the viewfinder at medium distances. Q: is there indeed a difference between M8, M9 and the Leica-M (240), M10? Edited April 30, 2022 by Alberti
michaelcole Posted April 30, 2022 Share #28 Posted April 30, 2022 Leica M uses the same diopters until the M10.

Yes, the M10 has enlarged viewfinder so the eyepiece needs adapter to use former accessories. I use 24001 "thread adapter" on my M10 (14mm wide) to be able to screw-in my magnifier x1.25 or diopters (12mm wide) from my former/older Leica M.
