Looks more like after shave than whisky!

Anyway, IMHO product photography is about selling the product and that can be via a technically perfect display shot, so that people can clearly see exactly what they might be buying, or it can be 'lifestyle' shots to sell an idea of what it might say about you if you bought that product.

Your photo about doesn't fit either category and as a product image it's just not very good - it's more of a display shot but the bottle should be full (or maybe empty!) and it should all be in focus.

Have a look at the Haig website https://www.haigclub.com/en-gb/ and look carefully at how they present the product for some inspiration.

Any tips on what I need to do to get to where you think it should be.

Thanks

I'm not into product photography or still life, but I did do some commercial product photography for catalogue use and that was all about clear sharp boring photos of various items.

I think it depends what you want to achieve. As others have said work on the lighting. I'd use a smaller aperture so that the bottle is all in focus & maybe use a polariser to cut down unwanted reflections.

This would have been the perfect opportunity for Neil to be sarcastic...if he could spell (or knew the concept).   :)

Decent photos, jip. Shame about the watermark...

Thats just what I do to all my exports to Flickr and since I hot linked the pictures from Flickr the watermark is included. I don't upload my images outside of my own servers without a watermark. And in my opinion it's not that intrusive, I've seen far worse...

What are you looking for? Sharpness comparison or just the bokeh? At f0.95 the Noctilux will have much less DoF, shot at f2.0 would be equivalent to the S 70mm. I did a test a few years ago of 50mm APO, Summilux (Sumerlux for Neil ;-) and Noctilux asph on M(240) and the 70mm on S2-P. The 50mm APO was only lens close for sharpness at f2.0 (f2.5 on the S) which is what I tested at. Saw no point of comparing f0.95 as will not be as sharp and will have a different look, which is why I still have it ;-)j

Bokeh - Obviously it's not going to be the same but I'm interested in how it relates and wonder how much I can relinquish and remain happy.

In a nut shell, I have a medium format system that is my work horse that I don't particularly feel enamoured by, and is getting old. The 100MP backs are awesome, that is not even a question - but the systems that go with it, the lenses and how they render aren't really in keeping with my own aesthetic tastes. And I also have a small format (M) system that is too limiting by it's pixel count but has a look I absolutely love. But there is a disparity because I get booked for an aesthetic that I can not replicate in a format that I need to use.

I have resigned myself to the fact the M isn't going to be what I need and there is not even much point me keeping it now. I'm kind of over it at the moment and I find it difficult to justify £30K of system sitting around rotting that I won't really use when I could put it to better use on things like my children's education - lol. But obviously that is something I could live to regret (not the kids bit, the rendering - lol). So I could supplant it with the S as my small camera because I love the way the lenses look. I just wish there was a 63mm f1.4 - this would be made even easier if it were an 80MP S and I could also get rid of my Blad/Phase.

I've seen some pictures from the S that look pretty close. The 100mm Summicron being most obvious, but is too long, and the 70mm Summarit-S can sometimes look similar to a Summilux in 135 terms when wide open and at closest focussing distance.

This is the frustrating compromise and juggling act I have been making for a long time and I'm looking for a silver bullet that does't really exist anymore, I am looking at least for a better fit with less frustration :) . The Contax 645 and 80mm f2 was actually a very good alternative with a full frame digital back but that is a not a choice for a few other reasons.

Softer, yes but the reason i'm interested in it, is because it does still retain that Leica dna in its Bokeh which I find more beautiful and less a wall of smudge and softness.

I find it better than the alternative medium format systems which are mostly featureless and sterile. Fujiblad Bokeh is sometimes really weird looking, like it's done digitally.
