fuchs Posted June 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Beyond the dubious taste, this product Camera Armor seems like a not-that-bad idea to weatherproof our M8's: http://www.camerarmor.com/camera-armor.html I have contacted them and asked if there was an M8 cover on their design board, but they just replied with a laconic list of future releases for lots of cameras... excluding the M8. I know that the weakest points on the camera regarding humidity are the ones that's not good to cover, as the VF/RF windows borders, the shutter button/power switch assembly and the speeds dial, but this could give at least some protection, including a hardened acrylic rear LCD cover. Additionally, I don't think that a molded grip and a thumb rest would be difficult to add... We could massively clog Camera Armor mailboxes asking for an M8 covering, or just encourage some of the Forum entrepreneurs to explore the possibility of making one Ed Albesi
Advertisement Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Hi fuchs, Take a look here How about something like this to weatherproof our M8's?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Eoin Posted June 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2007 I would have severe reservations regarding weatherproofing ability of such a cover. The cutouts for the shutter speed dial, shutter release would infact form a well in which to trap water rather than allowing it to run away.Furthermore such "skin" type products actually hold water which migrates into the spaces between the skin and surface of the item. Having no airflow this moisture remains possibly causing corrosion.
jaapv Posted June 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 15, 2007 I think something like this might be more practical. Just keeping the camera under an oversized Goretex jacket and only taking it out to shoot works quite well also. ewa-marine: the out-door and diving camera protection specialist Welcome, dear visitor! DaveEP Posted June 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2007 I think something like this might be more practical.] Except for the bit that means you can't see through the viewfinder or rangerfinder It becomes a hyper focal system (which is still OK - at least it can be done!). From my perspective, I just make sure the M8 does not get soaked. How I do that depends on the day and the weather. If it's raining hard it probably stays in the bag, because there is not much to take a picture of! (ducks as people show lots of awesome rain shots!). Failing that, I get my wife to hold an umbrella! jrc Posted June 15, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2007 I just had a big-money idea -- you get some tiny umbrellas, similar to, but slightly larger than, the umbrellas placed in the scotch-and-pineapple juice drinks sold to British tourists in the Bahamas in February, and fit them into a hot-shoe adapter. Folded, they wouldn't be much bigger than a ballpoint pen, and you could carry it in your jacket pocket. When it rains, out it comes, you unfold it.... Never mind.
