Took these when in Ingoldsfi in S Iceland after a tractor ride across a shallow bay with BLACK sand to a puffin colony. Got caught in rain and a sandstorm. These were shot on my R9/DMR with 80-200 vario ROM at 200 wide open at F4 at ISO 100. I have just converted them in PS Elements 3 for the time being and saved as JPEGs for the post. Obviously got fatigue syndrome from my 3 kids on hols and sleep deprivation with the midnight sun. Or is it due to the fermented shark I had the other night? andybarton Posted August 3, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2006 I have never seen a puffin, and it would make my year if I were to do so. One day... These pictures are very, very highly compressed and show lots of jpg artefacts. Don't forget that they can be up to around 235kb in size on this forum. These are both only 16kb, according to my Mac. They definitely only "hint" at the output from a DMR. On the other hand, if these are the best that a DMR can do, I will keep my three grand in my pocket... I think No 2 could provide me with hours of work on the computer. I can see posterising or solarising no 2 and turning into a Warhol style graphic could be fun. Not that the first ones weren't great as well but by increasing the size you've increased the impact. I'd be fascinated to see what detail is revealed by cropping right into the bird.
