LocalHero1953 Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1301 Posted January 11, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think back to autumn 2015. There was scattered speculation about a new camera, possibly a new M or something similar. The SL details landed on our screens as a big surprise - no one had seriously speculated that that was what Leica would come up with. The speculations have been all to easy this time round............but who knows

LocalHero1953 Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1304 Posted January 11, 2017 It still has a baseplate. Kerthunk!
Exodies Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1305 Posted January 11, 2017 I suppose a removable baseplate is the easiest way to attach a grip.
chris_tribble Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1306 Posted January 11, 2017 Gosh - we'll have seen everything before we get to next Wednesday... And looking at the table top or whatever this camera's been put on it looks as if it's the same body as the first one tweeted. I imagine someone in Leica marketing is going to be furious! Questions: How do you delete an image (or - as it's a Leica - is that never going to be necessary?) Is that an eye sensor below the VF? What's the other little rectangle at the bottom? What's happened to the little dots that you find on the lower right of the screen on the M-240? Does anyone know what they did? I wonder how you invoke the Favourites menu without a Set button? Comments Both the thumbie and the viewfinder now look more or less the same size as the M-240's Looks like you set drive mode in menu not via the switch. Good by me - I've gone into multi-shot mode by mistake too often. Rear screen looks around the same. From my perspective this is fine - and I really hope it's NOT touch sensitive and is Gorilla Glass. This has worked so well for me.

chris_tribble Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1308 Posted January 11, 2017 All coming from here: https://www.instagram.com/chi_rol_leica/ It does seem to be a bit slimmer - and the zoom button definitely projects slightly... Can't tell if it's M-240 paint of black chrome. Hope it's the latter... Curiouser and curiouser

John Black Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1310 Posted January 11, 2017 Chris - I think the big question is what the EVF functionality will be (or won't be) - moveable magnification box? electronic shutter to address the shutter lag? Changes in the buttons look relatively minor here, such as "SET" probably now consolidated into the "MENU". No need for an ISO button given that there is a now a dedicated wheel. Eye sensors could be a-la the EVF and/or under the LCD cover - there are air bubbles in the plastic so it's difficult to say whether there light sensors visible or if it just an air bubble here and there. I'd welcome a touch screen. On the SL it's in-active unless the menu is enabled or rear screen LV. For image review, deletion, zooming in, moving around in an image - it's very intuitive. I finding myself tapping at the A7rII's screen wondering why nothing happens Whereas on the SL it's pretty intuitive. The challenge with the external EVF's is that now Olympus is baking them into the camera, so the development of a new EVF is probably all on Leica's shoulders in terms of R&D cost and integration of third party components - like the 4.41 MP EVF panel. I'm guessing we'll see the Visoflex 20 recycled because that's essentially a sunk cost for Leica. Being a 3.68 MP EVF, that sounds nice enough in terms of resolution. I haven't used one, so really can't say. But I really, really, really want to know about the LV / EVF magnification box. If Leica continues to make fixed at the center... Also hoping for an electronic shutter option when using LV / EVF. That's enough EVF functionality for me to sell the SL.
rosuna Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1311 Posted January 11, 2017 I don't like (never liked) the buttons and wheels interface of any digital M camera. It looks like a cheap compact camera from the back. Barely functional, but cheap and badly layered. For instance, why a 4 directions pad and central button instead of a single pushable joystick? Why 3 plastic buttons instead of a touch sensitive screen? I would have liked to see the back interface of the S or SL, or even the elegant back and general interface of the TL. chris_tribble Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1312 Posted January 11, 2017 John - all good points, and very much in line with my wishlist. I'm concerned that without a joystick will it be possible? It might be OK to move with the arrows on the controller + the wheel, but the SL joystick was nice to use (though I was not convinced it would have a long life). re the screen, I had the SL and the touch functionality was nice, but I found the surface was more vulnerable to scratches than that of the M240 and keeping clear of scratches remains a priority for me... If this is indeed the M10, the decision not to follow the S interface is interesting. I, too, have never liked the back of the digital Ms (I do like my M-D). rosuna Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1316 Posted January 11, 2017 I think this was an opportunity for a radical departure. The TL interface would have provided the new M a look similar to the M-D... and a functionality like that of the TL: real wheels and buttons for principal functions, "digital" interface for anything else... John Black Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1317 Posted January 11, 2017 Keith, I sooooo want to believe you on the scrollable focus point Nothing against the SL, but that gets me into "good enough" territory with the M and the SL can be sold. I must be in the minority here, but I like the "long press" functionality on the S' bodies and now SL. I think that's a really easy to way to get double mileage out of buttons. I think somebody said it above, but I feel like this M-10 is what the M-P 240 update should have been.
Agent M10 Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1318 Posted January 11, 2017 God forbid. Dedicated buttons please. I don't get this. With the S, you can pre-program the four buttons to get to certain menu items. Pretty intuitive when you have it set up. I don't understand why the back of a digital camera has to have such a vast array of "dedicated' buttons.
lct Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1319 Posted January 11, 2017 Knowing Leica we could well have a little array of dedicated buttons instead... Hope to be wrong.
oronet commander Posted January 11, 2017 Share #1320 Posted January 11, 2017 I'd favour few, big programmable buttons and menu for the multiple options.
