The moveable focus point on the SL is great - but it's really irritating that when you press the zoom button . . . it zooms into the middle, and not to the moveable focus point

That does seem to be strange behaviour, but no doubt it could be changed with a FW update.

That is really irritating. If I want to zoom then I want to zoom where I am. Anybody (except UX guy) disagrees?

It all looks very interesting. Those new shots seem to indicate that ISO starts at 100. I imagine the buttons have a long press and short press function. I really like the ISO wheel as I change ISO a lot and get annoyed that I can't see it without pressing a button and looking at the screen. Seeing it on the top plate is IDEAL.

I too am interested in the viewfinder (still pure rangefinder, or with some fancy stuff) and the sensor. Shame our leaker can't give us a pic through the viewfinder.

And seeing as the leaker has so many gorgeous cameras, how come his shots of this M10 are so crap?

I forgot. No need for JPEGs either. Never shot any for years.

FWIW I'd suggest that ISO is a red-herring, a left-over from film days. If a camera shoots RAW only 'gain' should be applied in software ......

I really don't like going with the flow.

We had long discussion on the "ISOlessness" of M240. It seems that camera does some corrections to the green channel while applying 'gain'. If you do it yourself then be prepared to do the corrections yourself. Someone had supplied a LR plugin to do that. Search will reveal the details.

The idea that you're digitizing the raw sensor output isn't reality. There are hardware amplifiers (not just software) in the chain to get the sensor reading into the sweet spot of the ADC. The output of the ADC is the raw.

Well, whilst I cannot disagree because I do not understand the details, my own testing/experience is that whilst ETTR doesn't deliver as it was suggested it should, using only base ISO and adjusting using software can be surprisingly effective. Just my way of operating though, doubtless others will not have had the same experience.

My congratulations to you for being able to identify what the flow is.

Well Peter I suppose it depends on where you join the discussion. Currently (not a pun, honest) its about switchgear controlling stuff I see as irrelevant. No doubt this will change after a few more pages though ;) .

Well, there's no pleasing everyone.

Some people don't want a screen on the back and some want a bigger screen.

Some people would like a camera that can't make colour photos, some care more about what colour the camera is.

And so on...

My most hated cameras are the Sony A7 with its C1-C3 programmable buttons...

These "Custom" modes are very helpful on DSLRs, and I use them to switch between significantly different camera configurations when different shooting situations present themselves.

However, the is because my DSLR has highly automated metering and focus and, like your Sony, is "over-featured".

The entire premise of an M is sophisticated simplicity: everything you need, and nothing more.

So I agree with you that the need for something like programmable controls on an M would suggest that the camera has itself become "over-featured".

The ISO dial, on the other hand, is a great idea. It means that one can see and control all the important shooting parameters at an instant, just glancing down on the camera from above.

In changing light conditions, I do tweak the ISO to get it as low as possible, so it is a parameter that I would find useful on a dial rather needing to use the LCD for changes.

Doesn't the substantial dispute in this respect concern the question of whether the iso setting on a digital camera is in fact a shooting parameter?

If it is, the dial is a good idea.

If it isn't, it's not.

This is especially pertinent in the case of a predominantly OVF camera.

It certainly is if you are shooting jpegs.

Leica often has an additional surprise up its sleeve at events like this ;)

My french dealer announces only "une nouveauté" (one novelty). FWIW.
