105012 Posted November 4, 2016 Share #1  Posted November 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello All  Thought I would share a picture of old (1961) and new (2015) 135mm M-mount lenses. The old one is no slouch, a tad lighter, half a stop slower, longer, thinner, not as high image quality wide open but still very very good. Obviously, I like this focal length!

Dan Bachmann Posted November 4, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted November 4, 2016 Anybody else like 135mm? I have the Canon 135mm f3.5 LTM and find it very good stopped down to f/4 or more. When I put it in my bag, it gets some good use, but it is not my everyday focal length. Â Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
105012 Posted November 4, 2016 Author Share #6 Â Posted November 4, 2016 Yes it is the first 135mm Elmar of (I believe) Walter Mandler.

105012 Posted November 4, 2016 Author Share #8  Posted November 4, 2016 Me.... (Old and New)  (Old...but not the OLDEST... )   Hi Luigi, great to see I am not the only one with multiple 135mm lenses  Those 2.8's are awesome. Though your Elmar is not quite as old as mine
105012 Posted November 4, 2016 Author Share #9  Posted November 4, 2016 Some more info: my Elmar is in mint condition, perfect cosmetically and optically. It came with it's original bubble case and IUFOO 12575 hood.  Compared with the APO-Telyt, focus throw on the Elmar is long and slow. This allows a high precision, almost too high except for the most exacting work. The Elmar has a built in tripod mount (two sizes of tripod thread). The APO-Telyt is very quick (and yet still precise) to focus and has a built in hood. And the APO-Telyt is very much in the style of the great R APO-Telyt lenses. wda Posted November 4, 2016 Share #10 Â Posted November 4, 2016 I have an old Elmar, also bought for a less expensive trial incursion into 135mm photography. Mine is also near mint, for a reason. I believe very few samples of this lens experienced extensive travel use. Later I bought a mid-production 135mm Tele-Elmar which is much better optically. However the older Elmar renders in a more old-fashioned way, some would say 'classic'. So, for its modest price, I have kept it for occasional use. I like and enjoy using both lenses, but my need for that focal length is rather limited nowadays.
Robert M Poole Posted November 4, 2016 Share #11  Posted November 4, 2016 It's funny that this thread should turn up today, I was just looking at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leica-135mm-F4-Elmar-Lens-Leica-M-Excellent-Portrait-Lens-/351895224838?hash=item51ee970206  on the ebay page for The Real Camera Company Manchester.
spydrxx Posted November 4, 2016 Share #12 Â Posted November 4, 2016 I love the 135 focal length, having owned at one time or another all models from the first M mount Elmar up to the present. My first purchase was in 1969 - the venerable 135 Tele-Elmar. The goggled Elmarit was too unwieldy for me. These days though I'm using a Canon 135 3.5 and quite happy with it.
