darylgo Posted October 26, 2016 Share #21 Posted October 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've never regretted a Leica purchase, if you like the Q you will love the M. I purchased an M9 prior to the M240 release and continue to use it regularly. Here in the US the M240 can be purchased used for half of new, it won' t lose much value for a few years despite a new model that is imminent and might be so for 6 or more months. Advertisement Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Hi darylgo, Take a look here Should I buy a used M now or wait for the "new one" or just buy lens and wait?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
platypus Posted October 26, 2016 Share #22 Posted October 26, 2016 Recently I complained to my accountant that I spend too much on photo gear. To my complete surprise he replied: "this [life] is not a dress rehearsal, so you are doing the right thing". After thinking it over I am going to heed his advice and continue to feed my habit.......and so should you! Go for an M9 or M262 and whatever lens you want, your only problem will be that within six months (I predict) you will be really needing a second lens. david strachan Posted October 26, 2016 Share #23 Posted October 26, 2016 ....mmmm, Dee. Apropos of your accountants comment... I'm thinking about going full frame too...perhaps a new M or M-P. Even though I'm happy with my M8's... I'd get a lot of "new"-old lenses with the full frame FOV. And I'd love live view and close-up ability. But I'm still vacillating. Trust you are well, cheers... CYBORA Posted October 26, 2016 Share #24 Posted October 26, 2016 The problem is that the introduction date of the next M is unclear and generally you need to wait for months before you have one in your hand because of the low production capacity. If it will be introduced on the November event , you most likely have it at the spring or summer 2017.
david strachan Posted October 26, 2016 Share #25 Posted October 26, 2016 I'm not going to wait for the next iteration. From reports the M 240 has been reliable. So have "bitten the bullet", and going full frame... . I think Dee has tipped me over. After some years of expounding the virtues of my beloved M8's, I've ordered a new silver M240 M-P with viewfinder and spare battery. However neither of my M8's are for sale....ever?(?). Or my M6 or IIIc (f conv)... Next down the gurgle-hole with even more lens lusting. I really doubt it will improve my average photography...but maybe?? Tomorrow first thing, I pick it up from Photoco in the Adelaide Market...yahoo! a brand new camera. And just not any camera. cheers ...

Mute-on Posted October 26, 2016 Share #28 Posted October 26, 2016 Great advice and inspiration from my fellow Aussies. Not a dress rehearsal, indeed. Enjoy your New Leica, Dave! Cheers J
david strachan Posted October 26, 2016 Share #29 Posted October 26, 2016 Thank you, Mute-on. Such great support, as is the Leica Forum. There are good deals at the moment with the Aus$800 rebate from Leica. I get the 3 year Passport warranty, of course. Now to up my insurance, and add yet another battery charger to my circuit-board!! cheers...

david strachan Posted October 26, 2016 Share #33 Posted October 26, 2016 Couple of my favourites, Torsten and Paul... thanks for your support. Definitely keeping both my M8's...just in case the M-P goes cack, and I have to send it back to the mother ship for an eon! Or when I get sick of edge defects, or something I didn't expect. I love the M8 view through my various lenses...and just enjoy the images. It's "horses for courses"...I'll use them all..I suspect it'll may still be M8 at the end of the day... . And I'll never abandon occasional film either (M6 and LF) Thanks fellas...appreciate your input. Just one more sleep 'till FF digital... cheers... david strachan Posted October 26, 2016 Share #34 Posted October 26, 2016 Paul, Thank buddy for your enthusiasm.. Nice to know the files are flexible with great colour. Not something easy to pick up in the posts, and something I enjoy with the M8 files, which seem to be very "push-me-pullable". I hope I don't get too thingy about the CCD vs CMOS. Did enjoy the Kodachrome look-alike on the M8 though. all best Dave S PS can't wait to try my Voigt 15mm f4 V1 on full frame...I suppose I'll have to work with edge corrections of all sorts...
