Brent, and where do you read that it is not possible to make money with photojournalism? I am talking about the problems photographer have... not that it is not possible to make money.

""who wants to live from photojournalism in these days?""

WHO WANTS

not ONE CANNOT

Perhaps we are having some kind of translation problem, but I thought what I was reading above was something about crappy pay, etc.. Regardless, why don't we just stop swinging at each other? It certainly is not my idea of a good time.

Brent, I just have to defend myself, I never said that it is not possible to make money with photography. yes, I said that most of these jobs are crappy paid. but what has that to do with you? it was a general statement, so you don't have to take it personal at all.

A Photo's 'value' does indeed belong to the beholder but in general I think we would all agree that the first picture here is a 'snapshot'. It is a photo but not a memorable one for many. Some of the others posted as examples are very good AND memorable. However there may be something to learn even from posting a snap shot---it depends where you are in your development as a photographer.

The value of posting on a board like this is to hear different viewpoints, weigh them and determine the value of them. We are all constantly learning about photography and the only way to improve is to get outside input. Nobody's feelings should get hurt here on the forum, we all should be prepared to take criticism when posting. Some criticism isn't valid, but the poster has to determine that for his/herself.

Yes there may be all of those differing opinions, but occasionally someone makes a comment and you wonder why you didn't think of that, and if you are open minded enough it will help to make you a better photographer. Sure people give opinions and you disagree with them, but the alternative is that people will have opinions and not give them. The critique process can make both the photographer and critic think, and that has to be a good thing.

this is like in a game, some person are playing only if they are winner.

..other stop playing if something is going wrong..

...and some loose, loose, loose, but they lean and getting better and later they win..;) think about it!...

Jan

These statements are just perfect.

With them, EVERYTHING necessary has been said right clearly.

Thank you

If not for knowing the effect of one´s pictures on other persons and their honestly (though not everytime convenient) posted thoughts - for what else should you post pictures here ???!

Just to hear the echo of some more claqueurs or opportunists? That would be loss of time.

regards

Dirk

may be the high levels of photo-philosophy of this threat has reached, get me lost. According to I’ve read until now the private character of an image depends on how this image impacts in the sensitivity of the viewer more than its own condition. Then it is the subject who defines… Then the type of the population of viewers defines… Then we only know that we know nothing.:o

Can you help me?

Francisco.

Hi,

Following may last post addressed to Jan and thinking I’ve understood at least a 90% of what have been said, except some expressions in criptical English impossible to decoder by myself, I’ve reached to some personal conclusions I would like to transmit:

1- Criticism should help all of us without exceptions, even to the Masters of the Universe.

2- Criticism should be mainly about technical, composition and few more things, because all done about artistic values belongs to subjectivism. But many of us, in spite of our personal condition, wanted to learn.

3- Even though artistic values, as in others disciplines, are objectified by a general and historical approving, not precisely by the critics or personal evaluations. Not many people can admit them.:)

My best regards,

Francisco

Vic,

There's nothing wrong or childish in clearing up things......on the contrary, it's a good thing IMHO.
