Guest JMF Posted October 18, 2016 Share #61 Posted October 18, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the hood coming together with the lens and caps ? I was told earlier today by a french Leica store that the price for the lens and caps is 2200 euros VAT included but they had no information regarding the hood . Advertisement Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Hi Guest JMF, Take a look here Leica Summaron-28 -image thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IkarusJohn Posted October 18, 2016 Share #62 Posted October 18, 2016 (edited) I am not comparing the Summaron to the Summarit line, but the Elmarit Really? Is it that expensive? The price is in the same range as other "cheap" Leica lenses like the Summarits. Yes, it's expensive compared to the Summarit line. Compared to the 28 Elmarit, it's still slightly more expensive, and slower and presumably simpler. Sure, if it's a limited "collector" item, that's a different issue, but in the Leica line up, it is expensive. Jeff S Posted October 18, 2016 Share #63 Posted October 18, 2016 The Rumors site estimates the US price at $1995, which would be $300 less than the 28 Elmarit at $2295. Jeff
Guest Posted October 18, 2016 Share #64 Posted October 18, 2016 Leica has presently (among many other) 3 products: - the Q - an M without a monitor - this tiny 28mm. Putting them together in one camera without a monitor and with a built-in 28mm finder (like the accessory finder = no paralax correction, just a smaller interior dotted frame for the closest distance) nor a rangefinder and this lens (or a similar one) non-interchangeable built-in. Leica could have a VERY COMPACT FULL FRAME CAMERA.

Jeff Meister - Summaron 28 €2,200.00, Elmarit 28 €2,100.00 Marginally more expensive.
luigi bertolotti Posted October 18, 2016 Share #66 Posted October 18, 2016 Anyway... it's intriguing, no doubt... a brilliant move in a moment in which the lens' lineup for M is "quiet"... I am very curios to see some good field test... if it performs like, say, the Elmarit asph at same apertures (also in terms of contrast) I think it can stay simply as a sort of "expensive fine toy"... but who knows ? maybe the gnomes in Wetzlar have found the magic to obtain some unique character from this simple design with modern glass...
EdwardM Posted October 18, 2016 Share #67 Posted October 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) lets wait for real samples of this lens compared with the same 5.6 shots from ermarit, cron or lux 28.i do have 28 elamarit and Lux and it would be great to compare new Summaron with those two lens at 5.

You can compare with my shots from the 'old' version of this lens - link posted above. I would expect the new lens to be 'better' using the digital standards of today. NB23 Posted October 18, 2016 Share #69 Posted October 18, 2016 The word "bokeh" and the acronym GAS have conquered the photo-world. "f f" = fondling factor might be the next big thing. I can already imagine this: "Hello forum, Please help me. I need a Leica lens which offers great FF. Please note that IQ is totally irrelevant. I'm using a M762 SE (aka M16 Special Edition, which is essentially a M9 with Crocodile leatherette).
IkarusJohn Posted October 18, 2016 Share #70 Posted October 18, 2016 Yeah, that happens all the time - people here are never interested in image quality ...

This lens will be a great match to the three retro look chrome lenses already issued by Leica : the 50/2 50th anniversary, 50/1,4 Asph LHSA and 35/2 Asph LHSA or Graphite (hammer tone or graphite finished lens hood).
willeica Posted October 19, 2016 Share #76 Posted October 19, 2016 Funny to see how hard some people are trying to make this lens into a magical grail. "Yes it's only 5.6 but it's a special kind of 5.6. Forget it, you'll never understand." Have you used one? I can assure you that my 2.8cm f5.6 Summaron lens produces superb images. Antonio Russell Posted October 19, 2016 Share #77 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) Special order = we will make it if anyone puts the money down to actually buy one. Nice size but the price completely negates any potential market for these beyond the odd curio. Edited October 19, 2016 by A Aparicio
