biglouis Posted September 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Nissin i40 which is in other words a Leica SF40 but my copy is designed for use on micro 43rds cameras. Can I use this flash safely on my Leica Q in manual mode? Is it likely to work? Thanks in advance if anyone knows the answer. LouisB

Voxen Posted September 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2016 Mine (for Fujifilm) works with the Q in manual mode without any problem.

LouisB I have both the i40 and the SF 40... you can safely use the i40 on the Q in manual mode. It will just fire the flash...no harm to the Q. Bjiork Posted September 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2016 Is the flash locking in the position and stays ok?
Louis Posted February 4, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 4, 2018 Mine (for Fujifilm) works with the Q in manual mode without any problem. If Nissin i40 for Fujifilm works manually on Q, does any other flash for Jujifilm camera also work on Q manually?

hliewprk Posted February 11, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 11, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had Fujifilm ef-x20 flash in manual mode - 1/64, Q set to A for aperture, iso, ss. Just shoot and indoor pics seem to be like out of TTL mode. Need to change aperture, rotate the top dial backwards. Not sure how the flash works with Q but SF40 would be nice. bandrews Posted February 12, 2018 Share #8 Posted February 12, 2018 If Nissin i40 for Fujifilm works manually on Q, does any other flash for Jujifilm camera also work on Q manually? I may be wrong but believe most modern flashguns should work in manual mode as they use the central pin to trigger.
hliewprk Posted February 12, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 12, 2018 yes, my 15 year old canon 550ex works just fine with Q. Seems work in eTTL mode but no preflash for TTL.
jaapv Posted February 12, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 12, 2018 And no worries about harm. Leica uses high-voltage circuitry for the flash.
jmschuh Posted February 12, 2018 Share #11 Posted February 12, 2018 yes, my 15 year old canon 550ex works just fine with Q. Seems work in eTTL mode but no preflash for TTL. It is unlikely or impossible that the Q supports the Canon ETTL protocol.
rijve044 Posted February 12, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 12, 2018 Does anybody knows if Leica uses the Nikon configuration of the contacts in the hotshoe? Leica has 4 extra contacts, Nikon 3 contacts. I can see these 3 could match with the Leica contact pins. Otherwise I can go on manual and use the central synchronisation pin only. Thanks. I have Nikon SB800 and Nikon SB900, and they will fire but no TTL. I set the flash to A and the same Aperture on the Q to get a normal flash output. Distances can be read on the flash display. By changing the A on either flash or Q I can have a little more or less light
