Dinner good beer and company with some of the group based at the Travelodge. Photo by David Strachan with my T

It seems that Pete does not really stand the Witte Hoegaarde from Belgium :-)

I would have loved to be with you but I have other commitments this week.

Enjoy!

John

FINAL INFO

The Challenge Lunch

Meeting, lunch (optional) and registering for the Challenge will be at the Arbory  at midday sharp.

http://arbory.com.au/

Our space is reserved and we must be punctual for cost/logistical reasons please.

You may order and pay for food and drinks as you wish.

I will ask you to sign the Challenge register and deposit $10 with me to be held as the prize money.

You may start your Challenge anytime thereafter. (Rules reposted below).

The Challenge Dinner

Catch a # 16 tram outside Flinders Street Station (heading south) or anywhere along St Kilda Road. Approx. 1/2 hour ride to arrive At St Kilda beach. Leave the tram at Luna Park and walk to the Vineyard Restaurant for pre dinner drinks (just a suggestion) just near Luna Park, at the start of Acland Street. This will set the scene for possible location shots for those wishing to participate in the Night Challenge.

Whether or not you indulge in the Vineyard, please arrive at Rococo punctually by 7:45pm. Again, time is important for the Chef. Rococo is about 20-50 paces further down Acland Street. Rather than one long table, I have asked for 4 tables of 6 and 1 of 4, making up our total of 28 diners.

The menu choices have been set and the charge will be $65/person. I have asked that drinks be charged to each table so that non drinkers can negotiate charges at their table. This could not be done with one long table.

As I have gone responsible for the food bill, it would help me considerably if all would consider paying their food bill in advance at lunch time during Challenge registration. That way I won't have struggle round all the tables during dinner collecting money.

Please endeavour to have the correct cash for payment as I don't have credit card facilities. :p

Summary

$10 per competitor

$65 per diner

Extra money for your drinks, payable to the restaurant.

Repost of Challenge Rules

"EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE AUSTRALASIAN (MELBOURNE) ONE CHALLENGE, BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK"

If you are not familiar with the One Challenge, it is a weekend centred around a competition with very simple rules:
You may use any one of the following combinations to shoot with.
·         One Leica camera body, with any lens. OR
·         One Leica lens (one focal length if using a camera with a zoom) with any camera body.
·         One film (or 36 digital exposures – on a trust basis and NO deletions along the way!)
·         Two hours from taking your first shot. (You are free to elect your own start time after lunch)
·         Choose one best shot from the roll (or digital equivalent) for submission
·         Pay $10AUD and submit you camera and lens details BEFORE starting. eg. During lunch. (Winner takes all)

You will have one month approx. to process and submit your selected entry. A web address will be established and posted later for this.

After the posting time has expired, ALL LUF members will be invited to vote.

VOTING

3 pints for your first choice

2 points for your second choice

1 point for your third choice

Maximum number of points will be the winner of the title and prize money. (Usually donated to the winners selected charity)

P.S. The Night Challenge is optional, but well contested. There is no prize money for it, but Cudos can go a long way to make you smile. No limiting rules for time for this one.

Greetings to you all down under. I made it back from my work trip, just in time for my holiday to Isle of Skye. I also have a great view to an umbrella.

Enjoy yourselves and May The Light Be With You.

Great meet up at Camera Clinic yesterday. A most informative talk by the owner Wayne and a reassurance of how professional and capable these people are when handling, repairing and servicing our "Preciouses".

Thank you John for organising.

A massive "Thank you!" to erl for organising a very enjoyable Challenge, the visit to Camera Clinic, and guided tours through Melbourne CBD. The dinner was spot on and the ordered weather was mostly excellent although its furiously washing the streets for as I type this.

Special mention must also be made of Melanie's always good-natured contributions behind the scenes without which a little of the smoothness and precision might have been missing.

Thank you to all the locals for being so welcoming and good-humoured and it was really satisfying to be able to put faces to names and to be able to share laughs with you face to face.

If there's to be a discussion about the venue for the next Australasian One Challenge in 2 year's time then I'd like to throw Queenstown, New Zealand into the ring.

Lastly a note to erl: if the deposit for the dinner or any unclaimed meals or drinks have left you out of pocket then please let me know because you shouldn't be put in this position and I'd like to contribute to put it right.

I really like what I have seen of Melbourne and the Australian people and I have felt very welcome here. I will be sad to leave on Monday evening.

Pete.

I think Pete has covered everything, but Eileen and I would like to add our personal thanks to John and Melanie for organising such a great event. I'd also like to say it was a pleasure meeting old friends and to say a big thank you to the locals who made us feel so welcome.

I hope everyone has a safe flight home and look forward to seeing some of you again in Queenstown.

Also my best thanks to John and Melanie for the idea, organization and realisation of this excellent event. Considering, that some participants needed to change trains more than once, you gathered quite a crowd and it was absolutely worth to brave the airline food lurking under the aluminium foil.

It was a privilege to meet the local mates so we can put faces to web postings. Camera Clinic was quite an experience, which I found unique in their skills, repairing cameras is obviously the easier part of it.

Personally, I can also add, that I enjoyed Australia in general and Melbourne specifically (but also Sydney, Broken Hill, Ballarat, ..) very much and can highly recommend it as a travel destination.

Have safe travels everyone

Stefan

Yes...it went with a bang. Congratulations John and Melanie.

Weather was excellent, and Melbourne just a little more crowded due to Food & Wine week.

I enjoyed meeting you all, and lots of laughs.

Safe travels home everyone. Looking forward to our next rendezvous..

cheers and regards...

Pete, Tom and Stefan have said it all, so I'll keep it very brief.

A huge thanks to John & Melanie, both of whom were constantly hovering around to make sure that everyone was fine.

Also to the locals who made us feel welcome.
