My guess: I think you are right about the video bit, John. It could be Leica's input and aim, optimising the S for video production. I think there will be a range of rigs and equipment by Sinar specially for this purpose. That's what they are good at. They probably want to go after the (professional) video market, first the SL now the S, challenging Red. That's also why the new cine M-lens line is introduced, perfect fit for portable 4K videoproduction of the highest quality. I think some adapters for the S will follow, (PL) But if you also think of the heritage of Sinar, landscape, architecture, studio use and reproduction, using this S-back on their camera's with movement and bellows in combination with de Sinar e-shutter and Sinaron lenses, I think Sinar is finally updating their complete line of backs to CMOS with live view and adding the specs and usability of the S, albeit without the OVF. The S sensor is good with the UWA lenses so this suits the landscape and architecture fans well, I think. Maybe some T/S Adapters, a new Artec or even T/S lenses (hopefully UWA) will come in the near future. I even think there is room in the sensor window of this back for a new and bigger sensor, f.i. 54x36, to expand the sensorback-range with the much demanded 50 Mp for some of the existing Sinar users and also diminishing the sensor crop factor for the lenses. For now they will work with the existing, quality, 6 ùm pixel size. Will be a closed system though, not much third party lenses and backs involved anymore. I think they are reinventing Sinar as a complementary Leica firm, to provide the proprietary mechanical and specialised accessories to the Leica camera development. David It is a stand alone camera body, the Leica S007, without the Optical ViewFinder OVF, mirrorbox, shutter and lens mount. Tripod use recommended, without the OVF. To mount an S lens with a Central Shutter (CS) you need an adapter S-CS as shown in the picture above. At the same time it is the digital back for the Sinar view- and technical camera's complete with live view, tether capabilities and sync connections to electronic shutters and lenses from Sinar. The introduction of this back will be for Leica probably also the start to introduce other functionalities and accessories because it also has 4K Video capabilities. So it can be used for higher end video productions, etc. etc. The looks are a different matter. It lacks the Leica style and has a more technical down to earth Sinar look. I am beginning to think that for anything but the multishot work, a simpler view camera like an Actus or Universalis shall be adequate when the movements needed. I hope Sinar will introduce a new T/S flat camera and a nice midi view camera in the size between the P3 and Universalis. And Leica, please. Let us use the HC and HCD lenses with your adapter. Your S lenses are expensive, and many S users chose to buy the cheaper lenses without central shutters and they will have to find a solution. The Hasselblad lenses is the solution. Please let us stuck the S-Hasselblad adapter. Sinar has always been an open system. Please do not close it. Let your new toy to be usable on numerous MF systems which still exist, with the adapters. I don't want to witness and finance through a purchase another disaster, such as my Sinar -M was. I had two Sinar -Systems: one on my P3 and another with those expensive Zeiss Sinaron AF lenses and one 28 mm manual lense. With two digital backs my system was about $100 kilo, and its unsupported and dead. Please open your new backs! Sinar has always had adapters to let multi platform usage of the Sinarbacks. Ergonomics, resolution, DR, both has no shutter meaning that it has to rely on lens with shutter, but Sinar for sure is not a handheld machine, pairing with other view camera or tech cam. Anyway, Fuji has announced the GFX, a proper mirrorless MF camera. Leica S days are numbered... only relevant with people who still claim the magical power of the Leica Glass... I know, cause I was one of them. Like everything else in life (whose days BTW are also numbered), one needs to find the positive in what one already has now. Sure my Leica S (S2/007) have given me issues but they also bring me joy. With the SL, I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the 70S was for portraits and so already I can see how to extend the S-system which I currently have for as long as it sparks joy. Several people (I can think of 3 without trying) who have abandoned the S system continue to post frequently in S fora. I have no problem with that. Indeed, I hope they find cause to return.
